When y’all said a B&W folded dipole, I was shocked you’d drag that out into the woods, them mammerjammers ain’t cheap! Tennadyne also makes one that’s all stainless steel, super durable and half the price of the B&W, but still not cheap! Then you get into the icom and yaesu versions that probably work just as well but won’t last a lifetime like the B&W or the tennadyne. “.....got the cheese and sausage right here.....”. Ha! How very Wisconsin of you, sir! Bravo, boys! I’m gonna search the log and see if we worked during WFD.

I mean, who hasn't cursed a dipole they forgot to connect their coax to? All the wires fed nice and neatly through the branches, tied off just right. D'oh!

Wonderful to see an FT-897 in operation! Shame that Yeasu has discontinued the entire FT series, so my result is to discontinue ALL Yeasu radios!

The B&W antenna probably is way down from the EFHW. Anytime you get broadband from an antenna you pay for it with loss. I would suggest something else next year and I'll bet the QSOs go up. You just can't beat a simple halfwave of wire broadside to the desired direction be it center fed or properly end fed. (unless you put up a tower and Yagis!)
@KB9VBRAntennas10 ай бұрын
The efficiency of the B&W could be debatable. It certainly wasn't hung in an optimal fashion and the SWR was a bit higher than we anticipated. But it still brought in the contacts on digital. The end fed I was using was really knocking them dead, especially on 15, 20, and 40 meters. I really didn't stay up late enough to put 80m to work, but I still netted 25-30 at a relatively early hour (about 0200 zulu).

Hey guys, are you planning to operate the Freeze Your Bu%% Off contest this Saturday. From 1400Z to 2400Z. The multiplier is the temperature as the operating position. The colder, the better.
@KB9VBRAntennas10 ай бұрын
It's going to be 40 degrees this weekend so we won't get much of a multiplier. But I'll be out mobile for the Minnesota QSO party on Saturday. We're planning to hit three counties and three parks for the event.
