I’m in my second year with my greenhouse. I have lettuce,spinach, cilantro, and my bell peppers that I was growing all summer. I do have cheap LED grow lights. The lowest my greenhouse gets is 43 degrees. Spinach can stay alive all winter in snow and below 0 temperatures. Lettuce will grow fine in 40 degree temperatures in the greenhouse. Don’t know what’s wrong with your geothermal but it shouldn’t go below 53 degrees. Of course the air has to be pumping at all times. My main problem is lack of sun in the winter but when it’s out, the greenhouse can go from 40 degrees to 100 degrees in minutes and I have to turn on the exhaust fans. I eat a big salad every day all winter. Trying to get more to grow each year. Want to hook up a small solar system to run a small heater and my LED grow lights and make the greenhouse self sufficient. With just 4- 15 gallon felt buckets at a time, I’ve been able to grow enough spinach to supply 5 people all winter. I start seedlings in a second batch of buckets just when the first batch starts to harvest. Lots of trial and errors to learn from. Have problems with aphids and growing too much too fast. Have you looked into getting a grant for a free hoop greenhouse? Think you’d do well with them during regular season. All my neighbors got them. They are too big for my property. Just Google government grants for greenhouse

Thank you for sharing. Great ideas. We just lost the plastic on our 5 high tunnels to hurricane force winds and its now -14F. Expecting heavy losses in my orchard high tunnel. Hope to rebuild stronger and better. This GSM is going to be a b...h.

On the coldest nights you could put a couple of concrete blankets over it.

In the past stone walls were built in gardens, fruits were planted next to the walls and secured to the wall. This provided warmth and did it in sheets, water heat sinks are okay, but time tested walls are good, also do not place tomatoes so close to the windows too much cold transfer

Diamond, Did you refill the compost, where the wood chips and bark had collapsed and compacted? I could not tell from all the tomato plants, I like that you are still getting fruit off!. Once you get the under ground tubes working things will improve. How much more heat will they bring at night? Now it is 32 deg. With no tubes working. I am looking for year round production, it takes time. Thanks for the update!

40 degrees magnetic north. What happens then?
@OppenheimerRanchProject3 жыл бұрын
Considering the magnetic north pole is nowhere near that position, what does it matter.
@JohnGuest453 ай бұрын
Allowing the greenhouse to reach 89F only serves to increase the heat loss, its better to store all of the excess heat in the ground.

Could I suggest a geothermal wall on the back wall (house exterior). Raw Stone tile should help soak up the radiant uv and help keep that low temp towards higher30-40s at night.

Hi, from Germany (mountain area) We have the same problem, in the harsh winter time the temperature drops under slightly under 30F, so I consider to heat our thermal water with solar panels, do you any experience with that? Greetings JB

I just built a trampoline budget build. I installed 60 foot of pipe running back and forth at 4 feet and another one at 2 foot above that. Install 2 inch insulation for foot down surrounding the greenhouse. How did you run the tubing in your two greenhouses?

LETS GROW GARDENS!!! :) How about we stop paying attention to the Ass Clown Show they call politics and make this phrase go viral ... the MOVEMENT starts with the second person to promote it!!! I double dare you to make this bigger than the Brandon bullshit which in my opinion shows that people are lowering themselves to the Ass Clown level . . . energy flows where attention goes :) Paying more attention to something like growing gardens is a better use of your attention.
