Really impressive system you've got going here. Glad to see you posting again & looking forward to following how things progress this season.

@Greg Jones personally I'd get a fat daphnia culture going in those totes so it's an even more self sufficient ecosystem. I've seen it done in Seattle.🧐😉😉 Oh yeah over wintering, try two inch thick foam sheets 4x8 around the totes for insulation. Get yuh greenhouse whicked pissah steamy khed!!!😁😁😁

i have hopes to install a 600 gallon stock tank outdoors for just daphnia, one day!

Maybe Mosaic plant (ludwigia sedioides) and some medaka
@gregjonesonline Жыл бұрын
i havent tried mosaic plant yet, that's a good idea, i did try medaka and they didn't give me any fry last year outdoors, i might skip them this year
@dansaquaticplantsandtanks7482 Жыл бұрын
Did you use spawning mops? Mine breed outside in a small tub babies are still going strong now
@gregjonesonline Жыл бұрын
@@dansaquaticplantsandtanks7482 yeah I tried two different mop styles didn't get any results I think it's too deep for medaka to feel secure

That set up is kinda like mine with the pond and the greenhouse. Rainbow shiners are a fish I’m looking for this year to add to the pond bog. As far as the totes & bins they are auto water fill drain correct otherwise I said put some float values on them. But looks really good. Plants: Hornwort pennywort. Fish: some of those Goodeid would explode in population

Love it! You are saving so much money by using the greenhouse to warm up your tanks. What you said about the white clouds reproducing in your IBC tote makes a lot of sense to me! And I love the idea of supplying a never-ending train of infusoria. I am learning a lot from your channel. I think red root floaters do really well on the market, I know people love buying those. Also, celestial pearl Danios sell like crazy right now. I wonder if you set a tote up with them how they would do, since they like cold water?

Ill keep an eye out for RRF and CPDs during the next few club auctions, good ideas!

I'd been wondering how this system worked out. Very nice. Too bad you didn't orient the green house more with the sun path. I'd be cutting down some trees or topping them at least. Oh and what about some CPD's in one of those totes. You will get more than $1ea for them.
@gregjonesonline Жыл бұрын
CPDs is a good idea, I've been looking for a good group of them at local auctions. The trees are all mature growth, no good way to get enough sun because the neighbors are too close on both sides

I would put guppies and I BC. You could get a lot more money for them.

All very interesting. Any reason you have both inflow & outflow at the top vs the outflow from the bottom?
@gregjonesonline Жыл бұрын
whenever i can help it, i avoid drilling holes in the bottom of things as it will eventually leak. holes drilled up high have low water pressure and cause small drips, holes drilled down low have high water pressure and can cause larger leaks
@jbmorrow5390 Жыл бұрын
@@gregjonesonline Totally understand - just put a 90deg elbow on the outtake with a length of straight to near the bottom Then it would pull from the or near the bottom!
@gregjonesonline Жыл бұрын
@@jbmorrow5390 that's called a SLO solid lift overflow, it's a good idea for heavy waste fish like goldfish koi tilapia, less of a need for smaller fish. I have considered it

Floating plants don't sell well... You might try regular aquarium plants! That's enough light to not grow crazy algae and still grow plants...

I was just at an auction today and tiger frogbit sold for $25 a bag
