Love this project. Great free hand skills. It looks fantastic and has a food producing function. I would put a filter in that system somewhere though. I had an aquaponics system of about 6000 ltrs plus. I made the mistake of keeping difficult fish. I also grew different veg. But lettuce was dead easy to grow. Had I made my fish section more ornamental I might still have it. Got me thinking of making something like this next to my gazebo. Thanks for sharing.

i dont understand why you need a filter as the plants are the filter@@princesstalisaysay7437
@roxane1237 Жыл бұрын
@@princesstalisaysay7437 Most aquaponic systems have filters and two or three different aquariums for several reasons. Reason number one is that the required pH of the water for fish and for plants are not the same. Basically aquaponics is a question of balance between the water for the fish and water for the plants, it's quite difficult to get right so if you separate the waters it's easier to keep it working. Second is that the fish, roots, excrements, stones etc can clog the motor that is pumping up the water. In this video we only see the results after a month, also he is cultivating lettuce which is quite forgiving. After a while though the system might be too basic and there might be problems with too much nitrate in the water for the fish, or an overpopulation of fish. Also if you grow more complicated plants like tomatoes or watermelons, there is a chance that it won't work because the water might not have the right balance in nutrients. It's still a pretty cool video, but for more chance of succes you'll need to study all the technical parts. There are books for that but also other video's on youtube.

This aquarium / aquaponics greenhouse system would definitely work. I used to have a large aquarium and the fish can produce a LOT of waste (fertilizer) for the plants. The only thing I am curious about is if the number of plants growing above this fish tank is enough to keep it clean, or if the fish tank requires regular cleaning too. Also, I conditioned the water in my aquarium with micro-organisms / good bacteria before adding the fish so that they wouldn't be stressed and would remain healthy in the water. I wonder if they ran the water overnight over the plants in this aquarium to condition the water before adding the fish, and what type of concrete they used that would be safe for the fish. Also, how long did they cure the concrete so that it wouldn't leach toxins that would kill the fish? Very interesting setup here, but more detailed information about the setup would definitely be a big help for someone in replicating it.

Cool build, but you need a filter reservoir. Fish and other animals produce waste that isn't really bio-available for plants, so you need nitrogen fixing bacteria to convert them. These bacteria are in the air and quickly become trapped in filters, allowing you to build up colonies, so if you just add a second tank with some gravel to filter particulates out and cultivate the bacteria, your plants will grow better, you'll have less ppm in your water and your fish won't get ammonia poisoning.
@Heliosvector2 жыл бұрын
Could you maybe add a tank filled with pon or some substrate so you could still put some plant in them like maybe an aroid? Would the bacteria still thrive in that setup?
@BlitzMedia12162 жыл бұрын
I mean I get what you mean but as long as it cycles correctly you won’t have to worry about ammonia. The nitrates will break down and as it flows the particles get small enough for absorption. But I do agree with your approach and it would be absolutely hands free and less chemical imbalances to have to fix.

As with all aquariums/fishtanks/ponds it would be a balancing act. In the beginning stages the plants might not keep up and you may have to refresh the water partly. When the plants are fully grown they might easily keep up to a point. I imagine you'd have to get a feel for it.

Make sure that water proof paint products on your countries are non-toxic or specifically used for pond, I saw some expensive kois died because they use roof paint 💀

I live in Michigan, USA so this would need to be in a larger greenhouse. Still I am tempted...

This looks good but the lower plant growth is unrealistic. He probably used plants from a good hydro/aqua setup and placed them there. The lettuce at the lower part will have a hard time growing due to the lack of sunlight. There are a few dozens of hydroponic/aquaponics newbies who started over because of the failed design like this one.

Or maybe he just rotated the top plants with the bottom ones halfway through, not necessarily a failed design just a little more plant maintanence

The plants would definitely suffer if there was no supplemental light in this system but like most hydroponic 'how to' videos the plants are there more for illustrative purposes and simple LED lights can be added later. However, if a large mirror was placed on the rear block wall it would go some way to casting more light into the system. I use mirrors for my vertical growing systems to maximize the light output / exposure and it works well.

nice little aquaponic work! I think its better to put a drain hole on the side of the fishtank, its alot easier to empty the water than doing it manually with a big scoop

I really like this idea! How long does the bamboo last? Does it need to have some kind of sealant applied so it doesn't rot too fast? Also, what is the plant that you chop and let float in the water, and why do you do that? Thank you!
@MsMary-mg3ho2 жыл бұрын
I just read postings on one of the other videos, and it says the plants are banana leaves to adjust the pH of the water. I understand now! 👍 Still interested to know how long the bamboo will last without a sealant though.

I'm amazed with this video👌😍I have a doubt!! It means that the nutrients that plants in the hydroponics hydroponics system come from the fish waste? You don't need to add fertilizers or any other chemical product, isn't it?
@no1ideas2 жыл бұрын
Yes, we don't need to add anything 😍
