You have to be very careful about the wind direction! Had a setup just like yours, with the pipe pointing straight out. During the night, the wind changed direction and was blowing into the pipe, which filled our tent with smoke and fumes. I would suggest adding a 1-2 foot vertical upright piece to your smoke vent. Just a thought. 😊

Pipes should always face and vent up, if it's raining or snowing then a rain cap will be required.

I was thinking the same you need an up draft . I would also suggest taking some small machine screws drill four holes around your flashing on each corner and take some epoxy and push your screws out to the outside and epoxy them against the flashing on the inside . Then take a tin plate with foam seal around it the same size of your flashing and drill the holes to match your pattern on your machine screws. When you are done camping put the cover over your flashing and take some wing nuts and secure to the cover that way you will be sealed and not get any rain water inside on your bedroll and blankets./ easy peasy love video dude love the dog what a sweetie I sure miss my Pug Gizmo

I totally agree! Ellie looks adorable sleeping in front of the stove. Winter camping can be such a cozy and memorable experience. By the way, have you heard of the Segway Portable PowerStation Cube Series? It's a great addition to any outdoor adventure, providing massive capacity, fast recharging, and waterproof technology. It's definitely worth considering for your next camping trip!

Hi Jack, just came across your channel and I love your tiny portable cabin! I quickly scrolled around the comments but didn't find any answer to your question about the darker grove of trees. Could be a poplar. Have a look at the fallen leaves and get a good tree guidebook. Collins publishes good ones. In any case it's a young forest with kolonist trees like birch, poplar, alder. All of which are from the same broad family. Oh and a tip: never collect firewood from the ground. Even in dry weather there's more moisture in them and you'll produce more smoke. Look for dead standing little trees with bark peeling off. Get a folding saw and learn how to split the logs with a hatchet or bushcraft knife and you'll always gave dry firewood, even if it rains. Keep up the good work and enjoy winter camping!

@@TinyCabinLife may I make a suggestion, very inexpensive, easy to install and will almost make the stove unnecessary in all but coldest times? Get some Mylar Survival blankets and staple to inside of studs, rafters, joists...will make that thing toasty and you really should have a vertical exterior part to your chimney, about 30 inches high, to prevent back flow

the forest floor seems pretty dry and crunchy. You might invest in a piece of steel window screen and make a spark arrestor for the smoky end of your stove pipe. Speak arrestoor might save you from starting an unintentional fire- we are really paranoid about wildfires here in Colorado. That is one tiny stove. Thanks for the video, happy holidays.

I went out with the boys a few months ago and that really changed everything. I love the little wood stove but I agree it would need to be attended to a lot to stay comforteable thoughout the night. Here may be the solution, I watch another video where someone made a small oil heater using a Military Ammo can. Very simple design and it even uses a small computer fan on the heater exchanger (totally optional.) Reading through the notes they say running constant uses about a gallon of vegetable oil in a week. The only thing I didn't like was the wick they used. I would repalce it with a piece of Carbon felt which will wick up abould anything and the great thing is it won't burn away. Carbon felt is like a forever wick that never needs replacing.Lookinv forward to the next video so here is the like to the video I was taking about: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZoTOoo2krp1qe9k

I understand that the situation is somewhat different, but for safety’s sake, please extend the chimney stack to a height AT LEAST a bit higher than the highest point of your little trailer to ensure enough draft to keep the smoke where you want it to go

I suggest you to keep some Coal Briquette in your Camper. They not burn but glow and a 1 pound Bar is enough for 30-60 Minutes. Against the Carbon monoxide, you can simple add a Ventilation system with an opening from the outside (with het against Insects) and another Opening, a simple PC Fan, a Speed Control and Power from a small Powerbank. Maybe you can add somewhere a watertight Compartment with some Tools, like a foldable Handsaw and other Important Stuff like a First Aid Kit.

There are bIack bears in PA where I Iive that wiII run from humans 99% of the time, and even tho l Iive right across from the woods I'm not too worried about them. I wouId personaIIy have bear spray at the Ieast, preferably a firearm as well on the off chance you run into a bear that doesn't foIIow the ruIes. Even in winter, bears who didn't pack on enough pounds can be drawn to food smells. I keep pepper spray and a firearm handy just in case. The rare attacks from bIack bears can be predatory and dogs for some reason, seem to be involved in a Iot of bear/human interactions. I just want peopIe to be safe and their pets as weII. Better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it. Love the mini adventures in the woods, reminds me of my own childhood camping and enjoying the beauty of nature. ❤😊

Thank you for the video! My husband and I used to camp years ago. The kids would have a blast and so would we. I live partially off grid and Janeen doing so for awhile. I grow a lot of my own food and preserve it. I build modified rocket stoves for indoor use and I heat with kerosene or propane. I have the old school hurricane lamps for indoors. It is a bit of work however the longer we keep moving the better we do. Also have some cats.. they make great heating pads or bed warmers. Again, thank you for sharing😉

@@TinyCabinLife I think you're very courageous and I like the fact that even though you're married, you both stay independent. That's admirable. Plus, you get to miss each other. Can't do that if you're always attached to the hip. :)

I tried bike and trailer camping in the winter once in 97 or 98. The wood stove was made from a paint can with a large coffee can inserted inside the paint can. the chimney pipe was made from a downspout pipe. What didn't work out for me was that the trailer had no insulation and the tiny wood stove I made did not put out enough heat. My hands and feet were painfully cold. I scrapped the little project later on. I currently live fulltime in a 23ft class A motorhome with a small wood stove in the back of the RV. I haven't relied on propane for heating except when the winter temperatures drop towards -20 celcius or lower plus windchill. Carry a small hatchet in your camping gear. A hand saw has limited uses for camping. at least a hatchet and an axe will also come in useful if you need to drive stakes into the ground. Also your chimney needs a 90° elbow and you need 24" to 36" of updraft for the chimney to safely exhaust. having the side pipe is dangerous if the wind changes direction and suddenly you find smoke inside your cabin. triple layer metal to the wall or roof thimble will prevent the chimney from becoming a fire hazard. I haphazardly installed my wood stove and the roof thimble got hot enough to melt the styrofoam insulation and scorch the wood structure. I also burned part of a wall when the sides of the wood stove got red hot. I also burned my arm and leg from being too close to the wood stove. Once I put in a few thick steel plates around and over top of the wood stove and a few pieces of sheetmetal, it's barely warm to touch with bare hands or bare skin, such as finishing a bath or shower in the RV. Later on, I removed the flush toilet in the RV and switched to a smaller composting toilet (DIY bucket) and I use the wood stove as an incinerator to get rid of sewage waste

Little stove is awesome. You might do as we do, rake the area just in case something blows out of your screened hat. We rake around bonfire and anything with a flame. Wind could blow a glass candle from its mount.

Hey Jack I just found your video, we have a lot in common, I too have a small wood burning stove. What I found kind of works for me is to bring a small bag of brochettes too accompany the small twigs I gather. Like you I have a big blind bully mastive dog who starves for my attention 24-7, and I would have it no other way!!! Oh and by the way our means of transportation is an E- bike just like you have. So the combination of a fire inside... my dog that loves me unconditionally and nature all arouund me makes me truly grateful, the freedom be outside in nature and to be grateful to live and be blessed by our luv for this time spent here on earth!!! Be safe and God bless Jack!!

If you want to heat that space, make the walls reflective. It will reflect body heat like crazy. Plus, get a few fur pelts. The wintery ones for the base. I love the little cabin on wheels you have. I'm going to try and make one next year sometime. Also, I think both are birch trees @6:50. One is the white birch and the other is mature river birch. Mature river birch is more ash brownish and has vertical creases on its bark. Looks like it. (I could be wrong though)
