Howdy Sandy/ sorry to hear you’re not up to par. Take it slow and easy. That shed will get built soon enough. I’ve put up rafters by myself and you are right, two people would be great to get it done quickly. Lots of extra climbing for one person to do. Take care and stay warm. God bless

Having framed a number of houses mid-winter with rough green hemlock I fully appreciate the effort you have made. Not only is green lumber heavy, with a thin coating of snow or ice on them they exhibit no friction when stacked and they are difficult to handle and position. I've done quite a bit of solo framing - your attitude is wonderful - keep at it. Just appreciate that you are not swatting black flies and mosquitoes!!😀

Thanks George! The job site must keep moving on all winter for sure. The layer of ice on everything sure makes for a challenge

I have used metal roofing on a shed. I use up short pieces with a 6 inch overlap just past a purlin 2 inches up, and 2 inches down. Not sure if that's ok, but it should work. My Dad used to have us build a staging out of wood, right under the ridge, and out past the end of the rafter tails. When its tall, you need a ladder just to get up there, and a rail right behind you.

Watching another channel, called Ants Pants... young man has a sawmill shed he built in a month. Much better weather as snow goes and this is in Estonia where mostly Popular timber grows. A very dense hardwood and like this timber is quite heavy unless dried. Over there next to Russia and where people never throw anything away. A chair or door, maybe a shoestring was kept for another purpose even. I know at different times there, people feared for their life and so anything would be needed was kept. They grew a garden.... everyone worked hard and its not fun not knowing if its the last day of your life. I watch you struggle and its not easy. I feel bad about having a broken back but somewhere someone is having a much worse day. I can appreciate what your going through Sandy and not in anyway putting you down for this struggle. I worked hard as a mechanic and thought it could not get any worse yet it did. I lost everything I had. Even my best friends ... my two dogs.... Lady and Tramp. Two mistreated Rottweilers' that thought they were people and to me they were. It was the only thing that helped me stay sober and so to this day now have twenty eight years of sobriety. I suppose I could start drinking again at seventy five years of age but who can afford anything like alcohol or cigarettes.... a small sack of groceries is fifty dollars and that includes peanut butter, a couple cans of spinach and a small jar of apple sause... i have forgotten what the other two things in this bag were now but I surely did not have any meat or luxury items. Oh, a small container of cottage cheese... maybe I will remember that last item. Everything is expensive and its not right nor can your prime minister explain his mismanagement of tax money. He should resign and our president should face criminal charges for importing so many criminals into our countries. My president for two more days was out to lunch as some might reflect and yours partied like he was royalty. No reason he should not got to prison for how he stole money from you. Nothing is free but there is a limit to why or what we need or have to do... Sorry Sandy for going off on you.... nothing personal as you must know

suggestion Sandy, That loose end of the rope to hoist the fly section of your yellow extension ladder, Tie it off to the bottom rung of the stationary section of the ladder, that will keep it under control. Your doing a hell of a job sir all by yourself, wish I lived closer I'd be all in helping you.

Yes, sir, I'll be with you for the duration, Sandy. Stay safe, stay dry, and get well. As for patching screw holes in the used roofing, could you use something like JB Weld, or another epoxy adhesive. Squeezed through the hole so it bonds on both sides, I wouldn't think it would come off over time. Even if you don't patch the holes, what's a few 'drips' compared to no roof? Unless you're using the shed for assembly and finishing wood products, a few minor drips would be little more than annoying.... I'd still devise some sort of roll-up tarps for the sides to prevent/reduce the weather than would blow in from the sides. It's looking good, buddy........
@sawingwithsandy4 сағат бұрын
Hey Carl! I’ve used both JB weld and silicone and found JB to hold better but silicone was easier to install and cheaper. I’ll probably get back up on the roof once it’s up in spring and fill the holes. I think you’re right about the tarps
@TheHobbyShop19 сағат бұрын
Great work as usual Sandy! You need to have a viewer work party to help knock it out. I remember when I built my pole barn a few years back having friends drop by to help with specific tasks that would have been a struggle on my own. Just an idea.

You need to get yourself a Dewalt or Milwaukee battery operated framing nailer. I used to use an air powered nailer to but then I got tired of having to bring a generator and compressor and 100 foot air line into the bush every time so I thought there’s gotta be a simpler way. That’s when I bought a 20v dewalt battery nailer since I already had a bunch of 20v battery’s. they are expensive but they are a game changer!
@sawingwithsandy8 сағат бұрын
They are nice for sure. I’m used to the air nailer and since I already own it it made the most sense for me
@bwillan9 сағат бұрын
I don't know how you manage to roof a structure that high as a solo operation. I found it surprising that the snow that you did have managed to span the gaps between your framing and become solid. Keep on moving forward.
@sawingwithsandy8 сағат бұрын
I think if I waited long enough I wouldn’t need roofing steel. Just snow roofing haha

Love the videos but it scares me to see you struggle with and work off ladders. Have you considered working off a forklift platform say an IBC tote strapped to the forks? Then just a short ladder to the tote. Just cut out some rungs for access.

@@sawingwithsandy Dude, you need to check out Prescott, Payson or if you really miss snow, Flagstaff. Those three places are just 100 miles from the valley. You can snow ski in Flagstaff and head 100 miles down Interstate 17 and water ski on Lake Pleasant within drive time. It can be 10 degrees in Prescott and 4 inches of powered snow and 73 degrees in Mesa, just 93 miles away. They have millions of acres of ponderosa pine in Flagstaff, Payson, and near the Grand Canyon. Arizona is a 4 season state all in 1 day. They have a lot of Canadians there in the winter. They love Canadians so much there they promote "doggystyle nights" at sports bars so you both can watch the hockey game.
