I am doing this, but I put the sliced mushrooms on a sheet tray in a cold oven. Then I put in a small light with the UVB bulb. Cover the oven window with paper on the out side. Shut the oven door, and plug in the light. I can do a large tray of mushrooms at a time and light does not escape.

I think I will try this using the food dehydrator I have. it is a stainless steel unit measuring about a 1 foot cube. Would put uv bulb on top tray and mushrooms on bottom tray.... .this may even help dry them a bit,as it has ventilation,and air circulation all the way around. not sure I will get around to this soon,as it is becoming the time of the year when it may be possible to use the sun dry d method. But figured I would mention it as an idea. Thanks for your great vidios!

I guess using metal foil to wrap the bowl, by reflecting the light back into the bowl not absorbing it like brown paper, would increase the intensity of uv reaching the mushrooms...

Can you get a authentic molecule structure test of before and after the light has been applied? I'm just wondering how much IU would one slice have? And can we ferment the slice of mushrooms after the light exposure for better absorption, probiotics ect....?

You can put them in the fridge for up to 3-4 days. The mushrooms will retain most of their D during that time.

What's the minimum UV level necessary to up the VitD in mushrooms? I've watched a few of your videos, and have appreciated them, so I've subbed (through not through KZbin!). A couple of questions for you. I live in southern Thailand, and am guessing I can get enough UV all year round. It's rainy season here, and the UV index is fluctuating quite a lot from one day to the next, depending on the amount of sun. Today, the index is 8.5 while tomorrow it's forecast to be 2.0. What's the minimum UV level necessary? Thanks very much for the videos. You don't have a website, do you?

You can also expose your mushrooms to the sun, not through a window or glass, but directly outside (it doesn't need to be sunny or a warm day) for 15 minutes before cooking

@@CleanFoodLiving also another question which answer I cannot find anywhere on the internet. I did learn that the mushroom and light vitamin d is called vitamin d2. So my question is do we need vitamin k2 with this natural mushroom d2 ? Because I know that with d3 you need k2 or else you can have calcium in the wrong places. I know this is natural d2 but I just had the concern of wether this natural mushroom d2 can cause the same problem of calcium in the wrong places because of no k2 .
@CleanFoodLiving2 жыл бұрын
Yes, all vitamins need each other for optimal function of what they're supposed to do. Vitam K in your diet would be good for both vitamin D2 & 3 assimilation.
@Gamingandhealth2 жыл бұрын
@@CleanFoodLiving so if I am eating this mushroom do I need to supplement on k2 ? Because the I know this mashroom has a lot of iu in it and I know the ratio is 10000iu d3 or d2 is 100mcg of k2 . I’m using shiitake mushrooms which absorbs more up to 100k with the light. So that means I would need 1000mcg of k2 ? That was my concerns and I know I can’t get 1000mcg of k2 through diet. With supplements I know k2 is required for d3. But the mushroom is natural so will I need k2 ?
@Jnomadik2 жыл бұрын
@@Gamingandhealth I wouldn’t think you’d need that many mushrooms if your using shiitakes. 100g worth of shiitakes left under UVB light would amount to I’d say 150- 200,000 give or take if your doing it yourself at home. So I’d say have 5 grams every day. Also watch Eric berg he says that sunlight doesn’t cause the same calcium issues rhat D3 does. So I wouldn’t imagine that the mushrooms being natural would cause the same problems.

If your doing real sun exposure then no fish bowl needed. Just face gills up on a flat surface of any kind. Even if just a few hours of sun, the vitamin d will produce.

...i' m not a mycologist but I think someone eats the wrong mushroom. How can you tell I'm gonna increase the d vitamins in a slice of mushroom with an uvb light bulb build for aquarium or reptile? The reptile and fish have a cold blood , they need large spectrum light for digestion and synthesize d vitamin. If it's was that simple, someone would have already patented an uvb toaster...
@e.n.4706 Жыл бұрын
That's an ignorant comment. Someone hasn't pattented a uv toaster because this works with mushrooms and not bread, duh 😅 and maybe not a super marketable product. Most people don't care about how much vit D they are getting and in sunny countries it isn't really an issue

The specific wavelength of UVB light that is effective for converting ergosterol into vitamin D in mushrooms is around 290-315 nanometers.

I thought it sounded like a China special, but didn't want to say anything until my hunch was confirmed. I bought mine deliberately from a pet shop (Petco) because I knew a UV, d-producing bulb would be safely made as to not "cook and steam" the animal using it. Personally, I think the bulb you have sounds dangerous and I'd recommend not using it. Try again by purchasing a certified d-producing UVB bulb from a pet store or at least a reputable online pet store that will be guaranteed safe. USA made.
