This is our third winter off grid. Never know what to expect. But when that big dump lands a pile of snow on the homestead, everything comes out. The tractor, the four wheeler, the shovels, the snowshoes and the hillbilly grooming equipment!! Yahoo

you are both so blessed with having your own peace of mother earth. So many of us are homeless out here and dream of someday having what you have. Many blessings to you and your family, and thank you for sharing such beauty.

YES you are right about the blessings. God is great! BUT we need to pray for those who are homeless, and poor and lost. Our prayers matter..and of course we all should ALWAYS try to be generous in all that we have for others. !!

What a winter wonderland WOW. I know living off grid is hard but the beauty and wonderment of all natural living is amazing. There are things one needs to know indeed but .... wood burning stoves, melting snow to heat up for coffee and just the pure fresh air has to be healing to the spirit.

You have a beautiful spread there & the snow looks magical. I guess you still have to drive into town for work (unless you're fabulously wealthy) to afford things like fuel and parts for the vehicles. It would be nice to be able to get everything you need from the land. You are an inspiration for those of us stuck in cities. I would gladly trade hustle and bustle for chores around the homestead. 😃
@StarryHilder

Wolfgang1224 Thank you for your kind words!! We are not fabulously wealthy but i only do work 8 days out of the month. Our debt free status helps alot ( when you don't have credit card debt or bank debt as you know it free's the money up) So no septic bill no water bill no electric bill and a small food bill. We pay for gas..and fun stuff and things we need on the homestead...but even that is limited since we get alot of free stuff at the recycle center! Im glad you enjoy the videos... keep watching..maybe one day you can leave the city and come out to the off gird!:)

Looks cold! I live in Florida so it's quite warm here even in December. It looks nice there and you have all that room. I don't know why, but where I live they build everyone right up against each other. It would be nice to have at least a half an acre instead of a quarter of an acre. It would be so nice to have all that room and privacy that I see you two have in the video. Your home looks great. I know you mentioned you are a nurse. What does your husband do there for work? In recent years I've had a touch time earning a living and I sometimes think of just moving on. Sometimes it seems the more civilized we are, the worse off we are if you can understand that. Well, good luck with your beautiful homestead!

I would be so happy to live completely without commercial electricity or water. I would love to have solar power but I'm not smart enough to fix it. As long as I can stay cool in the summer and warm in the winter, I'd be fine. I'm going o fix a cellar this summer for food storage and a room above to do my canning.i will have a wood stove just in case I can't get electric. I also am going to try to find a spring to develop this summer.

Beautiful place! Have fun skiing! I would think he would plow driving backward, with that rear-blade on the tractor. That way he doesn't compact the snow first with the wheels and then miss some of it with the blade. Just a thought.
@StarryHilder
@StarryHilder 9 жыл бұрын
alan30189 The blade is heavy enough so when it drops down it shaves it down to the dirt..if anything the wheels compacting first makes it easier for him to plow. Have you tried a back blade before? His only complaint is the blade can come over the snow
@alan30189
@alan30189 9 жыл бұрын
Starry Hilder No I haven't, but I have seen people with back blades plowing going backwards instead of forwards. They can see what they are plowing better also. Whatever works, go for it.

I love the look of snow but had to giggle when you said about deep snow. I was no thats not what I call deep snow. deep is when you open your front door to see a 5 foot wall of snow in front of you. or peoples roofs cave in due to the weight of the snow best one is when you cant see your car as its totally under the snow. PS love your channel !!!!!

Starry is going to need our help,, she has been in a bad accident. Details are here: www.gofundme.com/starryhilder A GoFundMe page was started on her behalf. Even $1 would go a long way to help her during this crisis in her and her family's life. I created an email address that I will share with Starry and her family, they will receive 100% of the proceeds by using this address. I have listed the address at the hospital where you can send cards or care packages on the GoFundMe page if you prefer send something through the mail, just so everything is in one central location. Starry has a daytime job as a nurse and needs our support to help with bills and running her homestead while she is recovering. As you all know she also contributes immensely to her homestead's upkeep and her contribution will be missed. If everyone donates only $1 it will go a long way to help her keep things running. If you can't donate but still want to help, here is a poster you can print and share: tinyurl.com/j988m54 Here is a link to an update video she posted yesterday: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aoXMnWN5n5KsgcU Thank you for anything you can do to help.

Thank you !! My husband came up with the plans...first sketch in our living room back in Wisconsin years ago...then before we moved we paid a architect to put it into a plan for building. We paid locals to build the shell...then we did the rest...and the Rest was a lot ..we moved out here basically with everything we owned..no harage..no place to live..(The house was snot liveable..it was a shell...a big old construction site) so it was very tough for many months. We were really off the grid!!

@StarryHilder 9 жыл бұрын
Buzzards Bass haha yes compared to back north this was nothing but a freak snow storm. Kept going all day so did get deeper. BUT the issue around here is the terrain. Being in the mountains everything is steep...and drops off...like into the RIVER and canyon below. So snow around here can be deadly!! Just making it up and down our driveway in the winter is scary. I have special cut tires and my husband has chains...serious stuff

Hi.... I enjoyed watching. You mentioned traps....who set traps? That is a horrible way for an animal to die. I would be out there snapping them so no poor animal would go through the pain. Just saying.
@StarryHilder
@StarryHilder 9 жыл бұрын
***** We hunt trap and fish and grow our own food...that is part of our lifestyle here. And every animal that we do dispatch of is done so humanely. We understand and respect those who do not agree..but also remember, trapping is legal, and is a effective way to manage some animals. In addition, I must point out it is very serious to willfully prevent or interfere with the lawful participation of any individual in the activity of hunting trapping and fishing. So "snapping them" would be not just be illegal, but willful malice. We all dont need to agree, but we all do still need to follow the law and respect each others ways of life and living. We follow the laws and would hope all others are doing the same to. God Bless
