Winter Pier Fishing for Drum

I took a 2 day trip to fish the ol Dirty Bay called Matagorda. Fishing in matagorda is awesome, it has something for everyone.

Great video man. Props to you on netting that drum solo 😅. The end of that jetty is similar to freeport. There is a hole if you throw from the end at your ten o clock about 18-24ft deep. Ive caught my pb redfish 45" and black tip 61" from there. Tight lines!

Awesome man, how much weight do you cast with it? I feel like the rating is underrated for some reason.

@BeachBomberFishing I use 5 oz and 6 oz both no problem. I feel anything less than 5 oz I can't load it the way I like. Just my opinion. But Love it and after taking some Nick's Myers free casting class load it and cast a little further.

I was down there saturday, water cleared up nicely close to the pier but was chocolate milk just 2 or 3 miles north. Gorda served me well this year, jumped 2 tarpon in september around the 12 mile marker and caught several bull reds, black tips and bull sharks. Also, the same trip I hooked the tarpons I was nearly spooled on a super 6, not sure what species but it hit a 7-10lb southern ray around 10pm, so Im guessing large bull or tiger. Cheers!

Great video brother! Awesome! New subscriber here 😊👌👌. The reason that pier is the way it is now is because they buit that other jetty where the jeep was parked. That section didn't exist before and the water water was all they up under that pier where people used to fish from it on both sides. When they did the dredging to build that newer jetty, the dumped all that sand there and the peir became that way. I used to fish the sand between the old pier jetty and the other jetty that's on the other side of the channel. Lot of solid fish landed there. Good old day. Good stuff. Keep them coming 😊

You should get some oregano oil from an organic food store for your infection on your hand. Put some on it an put a bandaid over it and rap it up real good for a few days. It will get rid of the infection fast !

Really cool stuff! I’ve been wanting to visit the area for duck hunting and now I know I should bring my surf fishing gear too. Btw, I haven’t seen you fishing with conventional reels in a while. I’ve been the complete opposite lately, after been fishing with spinning reels my whole life.

You'd need specific baits. Depending on the water temp as well.
