No snow to speak of yet here in my part of Idaho, but it got down to 15 with the wind chill night before last! Today the high was in the 40’s. Discovered the heated bucket for the chickens isn’t working so time for a new one! Thankful it happened now instead of Jan.!

I remember so much of this. My grandmother raised chickens. I was a plucker. It was a family affair for us as well.

Thanks for sharing. This was beautiful to watch. It feels like I’m losing everything over declining the vaccine my job as a social worker soon my home. I’m now working in fast food making 8 dollars an hour instead of using my two degrees that I’ve worked hard for. It’s scary how my life changed over my decision not to put something I don’t want in my body. I didn’t want to take any chances because of my lupus and heart disease. I’m already in a lot of pain. I feel ashamed and all alone. I am a single mother with two beautiful autistic children both non verbal. Im having a hard time providing for them at this time. But I still have FAITH that God will provide for us.

I put the turkey in the chicken plucker the same as the chickens. What I do is hold the turkey up while the plucker is going and then flip it over and do the other end. It does it quickly but you cant just put it in because the weight will keep the plucker from spinning.

I hear you, November is busy for us too. Preparing for winter, making sure pipes are wrapped and covered, getting dead leaves and limbs cut and composted, any repairs before winter sets in, and we aren’t harvesting chickens this year! Lol praying y’all get it all done. Hugs and love from Texas!

Another great video folks. Noticed during the chicken processing the tables are standard height didn't know if ever thought about making leg extenders for them. I made several sets out of pvc pipe 1 1/4" dia and about 12" long. It really helps with the back strain. Wishing you folks a wonderful and happy holiday season!!! 😀

What a beautiful video. You're all giving your best and bonding as a family, I love that.Ive now lived in this sub tropical state for so long that I forget what it takes to prepare for winter. 😬 Instead our problem around butchering animals focuses on whether we can get a few cool days to do it and we have to hire a cold room because its too warm even in winter to hang them without it. Thank you for sharing lovelies 🥰🤩

Now I’m worried. We have an order of 40 Rudd Rangers coming next week. We chose them, because I liked that they like to free range like our laying hens. We did Cornish Cross Broilers last time and it kind of grossed me out how little they were interested in moving around. I knew that the Rudd Rangers would take twice as long to raise, but I had no idea that they wouldn’t be the same size as what Cornish crosses are at the end. Watching from Becker, Minnesota. I’ve really been enjoying your videos!
@HeartwayFarms2 жыл бұрын
I think if you provide a "free-range forage" with full access to supplemental feed they will grow very well... Just make sure to keep feed available to them ALONG WITH free-ranging.

For years canning intimidated me. After watching your videos, I don't feel so intimidated. I have been getting everything ready for my husband. When he gets home, he runs the pressure cooker outside on a propane stove.
@zombiemom50883 жыл бұрын
You can totally do it!! If you make a mistake just try again!! Remember if a kid fails you can give the food a 2nd run in the canner in a fresh jar and lid . Or just eat it !! I’ve been canning for years .. kid failures sometimes happen and sometimes a jar breaks in the canner .. don’t get discouraged it happens to all of us occasionally 😊

I love your videos, I'm always happy when a new one pops up! We raised our Thanksgiving turkey too, but this will be the first time we've butchered one ourselves. Is the gutting process essentially like a chicken, or are things we need to know first?

Hello! It is much the same as a chicken.... We just dry plucked the turkey 🦃 instead of attempting to scald it. Have fun and happy Thanksgiving!

You said hanging the lambs helps the meat taste better, what does this process do that helps it taste better? I'm very curious lol. Thanks for these wonderful videos
@HeartwayFarms3 жыл бұрын
Hello! Most animals such as dear, cattle, lambs, are hung up and aged for a period of time. Some people hang cattle for as long as 21 days at around 40 degrees plus or minus. This process helps to make the meat more tender and has other benefits to it.
