I am in process of building one of these bee barns for next year. Using spray foam instead of blue dow Styrofoam. Also using 4 shallow boxes stacked together. I'm excited to see it in action!

We had a nice couple of days so I filmed 5 or 6 videos to keep it rolling through December. I am going to be working in the shop a bit over the next couple of weeks and try to get the last two bee barns finished so I can use them in the spring. I might also have time to finish the painting of your field that I started last year (I only paint in the winter). DM me on the gram and give me an update on the "thing" you have been working on. Oh, one more thing... It looks like Rainfall Projects dropped a video. Take care and stay warm.

This great video made me happy! By the way, I was yelling, "Don't do It" at the screen. I am glad that it worked out without any stings. I hope that you show some video of how you feed your bee pollen.

I am happy you are happy. I have given all of the girls some dry sub inside their hives and provided a frame of dry pollen sub inside the little green NUC.

I've been slowly filtering through a bunch of your past videos while staying updated with your new content. I appreciate how you responded to a comment of mine so quickly before and you have a great sense of humor! I'm thinking about getting into bee keeping (I like to make mead...lol). I can't really find good info on what it really takes mostly time wise but also scaling from the start for skill building. It might be an interesting series for a beginner and a way to help you with content in the off season.

Hi James. Thank you for the kind words and for looking through my past videos. Please remember I am a beekeeper, mead maker, and KZbinr in training. :-) Anyway, mead is very easy to make and it all really comes down to the flavor and quality of your honey, what yeast you use, and how long you age it before drinking. I have learned that the longer it is aged the better it tastes. My friend Brady who has shown up in one of my recent videos is a very good brewer and mead maker who has won several awards. He brought over some mead a few weeks ago that tasted more like a fine brandy than it did a mead. It was spectacular. Anyway, I will consider making a mead series as a future playlist. Thanks for stopping in to look at my videos and sharing your time with me by leaving a comment. Take care.

A hive inspection in November! Nice no chance of that up here I would need little snow suits for the bees 😂 the best i can do is look inside the entrance inside the bee barn!

I usually get more brood this time of year inside the heated hives. I am sure a quick dose of pollen sub will get them going.

@@BugFarmerBees interesting! I run the extended deep frames as well, and I tried to build something along the lines of a bee barn / Polish insulated hive, but it is so heavy. I decided to try poly hives next year. I’ll look out for that next fall.

I find it mind blowing that it's getting cold where you are, but I'm wearing shorts and have the aircon on at 8am! How have you found plastic foundation? Seems from what I've seen to be very hit and miss. I'm about to test some out for myself.
@BugFarmerBees
@BugFarmerBees 2 жыл бұрын
Plastic foundation has always worked well for me when I wax it good first. The wax that ships is usually not enough to drew the bees in my experience. I will be adding new waxed foundation in the spring.

@@BugFarmerBees weather is a roller-coaster. Did an OAV today. I've been dealing with a lot this year and my nephew just ended his life and it's been hard for me to get in the right mindset to do a video. I'm about to make some sugar boards and maybe put my quilt boxes on tomorrow.

Bug Farmer, did you said there wasn’t any pollen? Is there any oak trees with mistletoe’s growing nearby? Sometimes they can get pollen there. Where I live, if the bees are flying they’re bringing in pollen.
@BugFarmerBees
@BugFarmerBees 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Don. I had no idea that mistletoe put out pollen. We used to shoot it down with a shotgun to decorate for Christmas. Anyway, I think I said the problem in the Juno hive was that she didn't have any pollen. I did see bee bread in other hives. I gave all of the pollen sub for thanksgiving in the next video :-). Thanks for stopping by and chiming in. Take care.

How old is Juno? I read somewhere that when queens age they sometimes run out of fertilized eggs and may start laying drones.
