Keep your water outside your waterproof bag, if it leaks then it’ll soil all the contents. Just stuck it inside the daysack somewhere.

I don't understand the logic of your packing. Why put the bothy bag, which you already had in a waterproof bag, in the bottom of another waterproof bag with the stuff you want to keep dry? chuck it in the bottom of the main sack and it's easy to find when you need it. Also, Crampons, you'll likely want to put theses on and off a few times in the day and they'll be full of snow. So why have them in the dry bag with the kit you want to keep dry. Spare gloves, gloves get soaked through the day and you want access to them easily so you can use the nice big mittens at belays, so why put them at the bottom? Why put your drinks in the waterproof bag? terrible if one accidentally leaks and also discourages adequate hydration by making it a hassle to get hold of.

There were some omissions here such as no mention of spare batteries for headtorch (essential), and a blizzard bag / emergency bivi bag (in addition to the bothy bag). Also some frankly bizarre advice such as packing the bothy bag INSIDE the main dry bag at the bottom of the sac. Only way to get to it will soak everything else and mean you are less inclined to get it out. Also it is NOT advisable to put waterbottle and flask and crampons INSIDE the drysac.

Shovel, for digging your mate out of an avalanche. Obviously, the partner should have one to dig you out, as yours will be in the avalanche with you.

Is that the Rab firewall jacket you’re wearing? If so what’s your opinion on it.

Having a spare map is all very well, but not having a case for it is nuts.....trying to map read a laminate map with big gloves with sleet and a high winds is impossible, how can you feel the map(even taking it out of the pocket would be a challenge not to loose it) a map case fixed to your pocket zip and your compass fixed to the case is far safer.

@Sparky then i dont think you have been in a white out. Map and compass are life savers (batteries die in the cold). Plus sometimes you can lost Satellite reception.

Sparky god help us......gps is a good thing to have as a backup.a map and compass will never require a battery....

@Sparky People like you shouldn't be allowed into the hills. If you've got a map and compass and you know how to use them you'll never get lost. If you're reliant on modern technology then the mountains are no place for you.

Way too little food there! Quite scary in fact. What would you do if you were caught out and had to spend a night on the hill? That food would not last long. Personally I would always pack an emergency bobby bag/orange bag too.

You will be fine, just not very happy. You can go for a week with out food. But I do agree that more food is needed.

Why would you NOT want the map in a case around your neck, because it's windy? I wold carry it in a map case around my neck BECAUSE it's windy... so I won't lose it! It's not going to string me up I reckon :-|

That's not how you attach an axe to your rucksack, in fact it can be dangerous if you take a fall. Can't believe the BMC are putting out such videos.

Didnt see a head torch or spare batteries, or first aid kit, or emergency rations, or knife, or a GPS or even a PLB given the weather he was walking in.
