In this video, we go winter snow camping in below freezing temperatures. Temps ranged from 7 degrees to 12 degree overnight, and it was brutal. I take Dusty, the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Unlimited Eco Diesel to meet up with some friends as well.

I have to admit, I’ve watched your channel off and on for a while now but never subscribed…..until now. It’s “refreshing” to see a group go out without a pile of gear that requires you to tow a trailer. Not saying I don’t watch those other channels but it’s nice to see some simple setups! Cheers.

I would recommend a minus 20 bag, thick fleece blanket and a Buddy Heater for short term heat with windows cracked open. My bag has a shoulder baffle and I wear a warm full coverage hood and leave clothes in the bag for below freezing temps. Use the Heater in the AM and PM sparingly and leave windows open an inch to vent condensation at night and it makes it much more fun....winter camping is fun, more fun if you can find other folks to do it with you!

Great stuff! I could tell that the real cold hadn’t yet hit when you were all eating with bare hands. That’s a great winter camping challenge - not dropping your silverware while eating with gloves that are stuffed with hand warmers! Any trouble with LiFePO4 batteries in the cold? I use AGM as a precaution. Also - good to have a plan for keeping water containers from freezing!

A USMC 4 piece sleeping system (green sleeping bag, black sleeping bag, weather proof cover, and carrying bag) holds up well against the winter. It's one of those things that works off of body heat so the less you have on the warmer it is. I was hesitant to sleep that way up until my 4th year in the Marines and man was I missing out! The first few years I was freezing regardless of how many clothing layers I slept with then as soon as I gave the less layers thing a try (just thermals on) I slept the toastiest I've ever slept in the 29 palms desert during winter. You can find them on the second hand market for about 2 to 300 dollars. I need to get me one!

So Jeep or Ram for a family of 3 to overland?

As a fellow JL Rubicon owner, I would say that the worst part of long road trips in the Jeep is the obnoxious amount of road noise. It’s so loud that you are forced to crank the volume on your music/podcasts to a point where it is detrimental to your long-term hearing. Jeep should at least offer a non-removable top as an option. There are a lot of people who would prefer a much quieter ride, to the ability to remove the top.

Might want to convince your friends to switch over to non-cotton garments. Preferably synthetic blends or wool. They will thank you later.

definitely important for situations where there is not change of clothes, or for situations like winter backpacking, but we switch them out sometimes in the winter if they get wet and wash them at home👍

What area is this Edward? I was in the Signal Peak area on 11/25 but there was too much ice than I was comfortable with (2021 Power Wagon) and I was by myself. I have friends that have done the Rubicon Trail on a stock Rubicon Jeep... very well capable.
