Winter Solstice in the Arctic. Fairbanks, Alaska. Time-lapse video.

December 21, 2009. The Winter Solstice - the shortest day of the year in Earth's Northern Hemisphere - is shown in this two-minute time-lapse video. Only 100 miles from the Arctic Circle, this video shows snow, spruce trees, sunrise and sunset. Daylight lasted 3 hours and 41 minutes, but the sun was partly obscured by an overcast sky of stratus clouds. The video includes six hours: pre-dawn (one hour before sunrise) and dusk (one hour after sunset). Copyright Eric Muehling 2009. All rights reserved. Available in high-definition.
