I’ve never tried this method and you have gotten me all excited to give it a go. One question, what side of the house outside do these go for the best results. And do they need to be moistened every so often. Thank you so much.

I’m in WI and last year was too hot and this year hotter still. To avoid them getting too hot and drying out and germinating too soon I’m trying the east side of the house to start and closer to spring place in full sun. I got this tip from Geeky Greenhouse. I think our winter sow changed to a spring sow.

Just protected...I would avoid north side. And direct all day full blasted sun. And only water if they dry out...mine never have...

I just winter sowed broccoli seeds. I've never grown broccoli before, so I'm anxious to see what happens. I also will winter sow lettuce.

Loved the Zeolite Calendula. It’s my new favorite fall flower over marigolds because the foliage can withstand frost longer. This winter is hotter than last winter. Last winter was a no-go on WS here in WI in my location Z5a. It was too hot, rain in January and then it snowed in February. I think what happened is they germinated too early and froze. I had no problems in 2022. Like you, I would LOVE to do all WS, but this weird temp rollercoaster is causing problems in my area. I did learn from Geeky Greenhouse to place them on the east side of house so they get morning sun only. Closer to spring bring them into full sun. I’ve only done a few so far and they remained moist so far and no signs of swelling seeds like last February which was way too early to see germination here. What do you think about east side to start and sowing later or according to instructions? 😮I know I can’t start them in Jan and February with temps like they have been. We have a desert like microclimate also. Looking forward to reveal especially how the Livingston seeds do as a cherry tomato we had was really weird last year. The plant was loaded with blossoms and no tomatoes-like Crazy amount of blossoms. 😂I lost the number to seed hoarders anonymous.

So I take it that’s a yes to east side of building 😊

Once the seeds have sprouted in the milk, jugs or clear, plastic soda bottles, how do you transfer them to the ground? 17:34
@gardeningTLC
@gardeningTLC 7 ай бұрын
You carefully separate them, up-pot them or if it is time plant them right in the ground

I winter sow in Jan/Feb because I do perennials, and especially the perennial seeds that need the freeze stratification although I guess you could put them in the freezer for a few days then sow them later. Like Michelle said it really hands off, just watch to make sure they don’t dry out. Bonus is not having fungus gnats in your house!! I am also going to try puncturing extra holes in the top of the container to capture more rain/snow. I planted 18 jugs last year and every one was a success! If you do try it make sure to watch how you treat them once they are ready to be planted out, you need to harden them off. Best of luck! Brenda🇨🇦

How often do you water the jugs? Do you put them in full sun? Do you bring them inside if there is a freeze warning?
@gardeningTLC
@gardeningTLC 7 ай бұрын
I dont water them unless they dry out, which has never happened to me. I have them in a protected area with good light and no I do not bring them in. I pretty much plant them and then hands off....I will check them on them in a couple of weeks.
