That looks like some nice Ash I have a rugged made splitter the wedge is not on the cylinder and the whole wedge just slips on and off and I have a 4 and 6 way wedges i had them made the way I wanted they work great, enjoy watching your videos I really liked the one on the stone walls that was very interesting ,have a great day

Thanks Larry for such kind words. Those Rugged Made splitters are really nice. I don't think I would buy another splitter where the wedge is on the ram. I have gotten a lot of good feedback on the Stonewall video. The funny thing is that I was hesitant to post that one since it was a big departure from my norm. Thanks again!

Good feeling when wood is being processed. Better to split in cold weather.

I agree wholeheartedly. It is just enough movement to keep you warm.

Hey Woody! I love technology when you can work and talk. Great for making videos and making splitting interesting. I had 2 hours of video that I never used while standing by the splitter and talking. When I was editing I thought, who is this mental Joe Lumberjack? Funny how you just get to talking and forget the camera is on! Oh, nice ash! Take care my friend! WST

I have done that same footage of just splitting and after about 15 seconds you lose the viewer. I appreciate the comment about my ash. LOL

That is some good Ash. I am always amazed when I cut an Ash tree down and it is mostly punky, then the one right next to it is perfect wood.

Tim, I experience the same. I have no wisdom as to why that occurs. Thanks for watching!

Christmas music…still? 😳 Hopefully you can’t hear it over the chainsaw and splitter. That ash sounds dry when you split it. I love that sound. I’ve got a few of the wooden pallet IBCs. I prefer the plastic over the metal and the metal over the wood. The wooden one just don’t last as long. Thanks for sharing!
@woodruffwoods2 жыл бұрын
That Christmas music is motivation to use power tools LOL. I too prefer the plastic or metal IBC's. I guess on the positive side, I can always repair a pallet.

Or a way to adjust the four way down to accommodate the different width logs??

I help to manage a property about an hour south of me. Last spring we discovered that all the Ash had died over the winter. I fell what I could, they brought in a service for what I couldn't. In 2 1/2 days with two splitters and about 15 or so people processed it into about 8 full cord fur use on sight. I'm planning on dropping another 20-30 this spring. Ash is awesomely fast drying stuff and doesn't seem to rot to fast if you keep it off the ground.

I agree Jared. It is great firewood. I am actually out cutting some today and cleaning up some that are too far gone. You will be seeing the video later this week. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Nice video Woodruff!! I have the same splitter and I had a couple questions about the 4 way wedge but you pretty much answered them in the video. I’ll definitely be tuning in to the next video to hear more about your splitter.

I was wondering about that 4-way. I would like to have one, but I agree, if that's all the wider it can split then it won't do me much good. I'll check out the next video to see what you hear from Countyline.

YTL International makes the splitter and they were great in correcting my issue.

Hey Woodruff, That’s some nice, seasoned Ash you have there! I will be going out into the woods today to scrounge up some Ash rounds. Our inventory is almost completely out. Congrats on breaking 500! Good video!
@woodruffwoods2 жыл бұрын
We are at the end of our inventory too. I am trying to cut as much as possible before I just have to burn it in a pile. I certainly would rather see it go to warm a home than to be wasted. Thanks for the congrats as well. Hoping that this is a milestone to move forward to 1000

Good video today. Lil work lil talk lil both. Oh sorry lil music too lol. I tried a 4 way that a friend has and did not like it. I like small splits so. I get more done splitting rounds into slabs with the single. Then splitting two slabs at a time. If you get what I mean. Any how you have a great day!
@woodruffwoods2 жыл бұрын
I do understand what you mean and that works well. I tend to do the same on most occasions because the 4 way is such a pain.
@Matt_justlikethat2 жыл бұрын
Gotta try an figure a way where u don’t have to physically lift the log before splitting. I just have a single anvil 28 ton splitter. I’ve seen where guys welded a axe head on the single seemed like it split thoroughly. Thanks Matt New subscriber 👍👍
@woodruffwoods2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for being a new sub and taking the time to comment. I haven't seen the axe head idea but I know Outdoors with this Guy has modified a similar splitter and 4 way to work much better. I totally agree that the wedge being lower would make this so much more useful.
@jameskent94872 жыл бұрын
I think the problem is that the splitter wasn't designed with a 4 way in mind. The two uprights, one of which contains your back/forward control, limit the size and placement of the crossblades. Without those the crossblades could be wider which they need to be to be effective (also lower). Unfortunately the simple solution of removing them would require the controls to be repositioned. 4 way was clearly an afterthought.
@woodruffwoods2 жыл бұрын
The control valve is actually not attached to the upright but you are correct that the machine was not created with a 4 way in mind. The 4 way is able to be used but only on a certain size of wood. I really wish I didn't buy it.

The same wedge was included with my splitter. Going to take it to the local welding shop and see what it will cost to have him make w custom wedge using the slip-on I have as a pattern. Will make it 12in tall and 12in wide.
@woodruffwoods2 жыл бұрын
I had a comment on one of my early videos on my splitter. It was from Scott Baican and he sent me some pictures of a wedge he made. You may also want to check out the modification that "Outdoors with this Guy" made. He recently posted a video answering questions about his splitter and what he did to make it more useful.

@@woodruffwoods, I subbed to both of your channels. The 4-way wedge mod will greatly expand and extend the usefulness of my "glacier slow" splitter until have the business to warrant the expense of a Wolfe Ridge or Eastonmade.

@@woodruffwoods, am waiting for the weather to warm up. But it can't warm up until after I get this season's campfire firewood logs into my woodyard. Usually the roads get posted on March 1st or shortly after that. Then no logs trucls can get to me until after the frost is out of the ground. I'll be doing a bunch of mods to my splitter. Just the wedge mod, adding a combo work table extension and engine guard (don't want the engine to get smashed by a chunk of firewood), and add a work table on the control valve side of the splitter. Should be able to double production with everything in place.
@woodruffwoods2 жыл бұрын
@@thefirewooddoctor I will be watching for the videos of that upgrade! I am in that, "should I buy a commercial splitter" dilemma.

The 4 way on these box store splitters just don’t work that well.
@MySliceOfHeavenoutdoors2 жыл бұрын
The ash looked nice, I have been watching a few guys with the 4 way wedges on their splitters, I could tell they dont work all that great. Too me it looks like the wood would have to be a specific diameter for it to be a one pass deal. And we will never find wood all the same size.
@woodruffwoods2 жыл бұрын
Well said! Unless the machine is designed to run a 4 way wedge it seems it is just ok. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment!

I bought a 4 way for my speeco splitter, What a piece of garbage. I was so disappointed in that waste of money I had to buy a new splitter. I love working with Ash, great wood.
@woodruffwoods2 жыл бұрын
I see the better splitters with a 4 way and I have those same thoughts. I also like working with Ash. It splits easy, burns great, and has very little creosote. Thanks for watching and commenting.

May I ask why you run your chains so loose? Can’t beat that ash……that was nice of you to run that tote of firewood up to the neighbors 🪵🪓🔥👍👏🤜🏼❄️🤛🏼
@woodruffwoods2 жыл бұрын
I don’t normally do that 😂 I am also shocked you are the first to notice. I was pressed for time and I had about 15-20 finish cuts to make and just went with it. When I edited the video I thought more would comment on that loose chain. The chain I was using was the one I was using for brush cutting and it is shot so I knew that it was going into the metal recycling bin at the end of the day. Thank you for watching and commenting!
