No matter where you go fishing in the world I love how you can approach a random person and have a chat about the day and how things are going, getting out in the fresh air and catching a fish or 2 makes it all better

Hi Rhys, As relative beginner I watched this video yesterday (15 Jan 24) and fished today in identical conditions. Usually I would have fished different lures / retrievals and failed. So, I fished a bung with an orange blob, had 4 great takes, and landed 3 decent fish! Great advice, thanks very much please keep all this information coming!!! 😎 Garryl

I’ve just started taking up fly fishing and have had a good 4-5 weeks of absolutely nothing taking or biting at all, caught one last weekend on a blue damsel, one thing I’ve always wondered mate is how do you know what depth to sit your fly at and how do you know what fly the fish are interested in so easily 😂

Once again , a great video which proves the importance of keeping the fly, egg or buzzer as static as possible. I went fishing this week and it was really cold, dead calm and sunny spells. My success was all on indicator tactics where everyone else was just pulling lures through. Surprisingly a gold head daddy with rubber legs was the winning fly here. If all else fails try that fly! Have a great Xmas Rhys and keep producing these super videos.

Thanks once again Mate for a very good instructional video. @paulatkinson48123 жыл бұрын
Very informative, as ever. I like the structured way you approach your fishing. I'm interested to know in what order you prioritise your changes when you want to increase your catch rate, specifically using the bung; do you first change your fly, depth or location? Also, I was at Ellerdine recently watching people fishing using the indicator. Many were casting out and either twitching it back, or using a slow retrieve. I have, up until now, tended to fish completely static. What are your views on this?
@RhysFishes3 жыл бұрын
Static is king on the bung. I never move my bung quite honestly. In terms of decision making, it’s a lot down to experience and gut instinct. When you know there are fish in front of you, if nothing happens on the fly/depth within 10 minutes, I’m already thinking about the next fly, depth, method to go…

Hi Rhys, I have a question, I want to start fishing the large reservoirs, what methods at what time of year would you use as a starter, thanks in advance
@RhysFishes3 жыл бұрын
This time of year is very hit and miss on larger reservoirs. If the lake has a healthy population of coarse fish and fry, you can go down the route of targeting fry feeders with minky style patterns. If the lake doesn’t have this then consider what depth the fish are sitting at and go down after them. A Di7 with boobies or fabs is a regularly often used method at this time of year. Fishing can be hot for certain parts of the day and it’s about capitalising on those periods when the fish are active

Love your channel, Rhys. i'm new to fly fishing and i'm trying to understand how to fish in stillwater. i have (probably) a dumb question: When you say "leader" you mean tapered leader?
@RhysFishes2 жыл бұрын
For the best part, we rarely fish tapered leaders in stillwaters. There isn't really a need for it like there would be on a river. So I'd usually fish just straight through fluorocarbon. The only time I would revert to a tapered leader on a stillwater is for dry fly fishing 👍

Another great video Rhys! I'm in the NW of the U.S. these small private fisheries are an anomaly for me. In the drone shots... are the off color waters a new pond the land owner is building?
@RhysFishes3 жыл бұрын
Cheers tightlines Nw! For the uk these type of private run fisheries are our bread and butter. All river fishing is also owned by clubs etc… and can be limited to numbers of anglers per day (being very small). Regarding the lakes, the left lake is full of course fish and is fed via a different stream, hence the colour difference. The bottom lake is currently being dug out 👍
