Hi Tim. Really like the way you release fish in the net with minimal handling. Nice one. You see so many anglers, particularly when landing salmon, mauling them to death for the purpose of a photo. Iain Fraser Hi Tim, your video is really good because it is as if you are talking to the audience as though they are with you at the lake. Really well explained. Whoever was doing your camera work was also very good. I just tied up about 20 odd bungs of varying sizes on the same principal as the Fario brand. Always nice to see Chigboro and how good it can be especially for beginners. Now I have subscribed hopefully I will be able to find many more of your U-Tube videos. I am always keen to learn something I never knew before even though I have fly fished for the last 55 years or so apart from when I was based in Hong Kong for two tours in the late 70's and early eighties the one thing I have learned is that you never stop learning.

Great video. 2 questions, do you have a tapered leader to fly line then tipper from tapered leader or just tippet from fly line? How have you tied on the middle and point flies, newzeland style?? Or tags

Thanks for watching . Its 8lb fluro al the way through . I never use tapered leaders , there just is no reason when using this kind of tackle . Tapered leaders are really for very lightweight set ups like small rivers etc and rods rated 1wt . 2 wt , 3wt ... The other flies are tied on droppers , approx. 5 inches long . Tied with a 3 turn water knot . Again NZ Style really is for river fishing as it can impede the way a fly sits , it also puts unnecessary stress on the hook bend . Thanks for watching . Well the reason we use CDC is for its natural buoyancy so I don't use any floatant on them at all as I find it actually has an adverse affect . Just dry them off between fish with an Amadou patch or just a piece of kitchen towel . Floatants on CDC can cause them to stick together and actually sink .

Its all the same thing . Tippet , leader , line , cast are all different terms for the same thing . This is 8lb Ghostmode flurocarbon straight off the spool .

Yes , that is the down side of a fixed bung , but if you know your water well you can usually get it right first time .

Yes its attached directly to the main leader either tied on a dropper or fixed some other way . Yep fishing it just like a bobber . Its so effective for fish feeding on Chironomids mid water , well worth a go !

There is no set time , depends on the day . I usually let the breeze move it through the peg , after a minute or two if I am happy I have covered the water I will recast . You dont wat to move it so dont get impatient .

It casts ! ... That's all that can be said about it ! Like any indicator it creates drag but with a 6 or 7 weight set up its negligible . You need something a little larger and more buoyant when fishing a team of flies like this so it really is a necessary evil ! .. Thanks for watching .

Both are just as effective and really is down to personal preference . On a day like this when a lot of the takes we’re very finnacky then the indicator was definitely more effective . The downside of the indicator is you fix your depths , when you straight line you can alter the depths simply by retrieve speed and pauses .. each method has their merits and it’s well worth having both in your armoury .

@@trevorluft1763 it all depends on the depth of water you're fishing mate, if nothing is topping then there's a good chance they'll be around mid water but again that's depending on what theyre feeding on or water temperature..... maybe they're holding near the bottom! Just think of it abit like this, if that's where the fish are then slide the bung about a foot from were you're fly line& leader join. If nothings happening then move it down further ( towards the flys) another foot or so , keep adjusting until you start to find out where the fish are . But remember you will eventually have fish drop off and start feeding maybe deeper or they might come up nearer to the surface so you'll have to start varying the bungs depth again until you find them again as trout often switch off feeding at the depth you've been catching at.

Doesn’t that defeat the art of fly casting …? I don’t know about you, but I’m continually casting with my fly rods … w/ no strike indicators… ever… Just sayin… you can use that system with any rod but why with a fly rod ….?

Its just another method , it isn't infallible , wont work all the time . I find that clients who have limited arm or shoulder movement or are easily tired benefit from this kind of approach as it reduces their casting allowing for a longer session fishing . Kids love it too as it gives them something to focus on . You still have to cast the rig to where you want it and some days the fish will only look at static patterns . Every method has its place . If its not for you I get that , its cool .
