Hi Boyd! Glad to hear you're well. I used to watch your channel a bunch in high school when I was into modeling. Haven't had the chance much now that I'm in college, but I remembered the good times watching your videos and looking forward to my next build. Hopefully I can get something started on the bench here by the end of my semester. Just wanted to say hello & thank you for inspiring me so long ago! Cheers!

I feel glad MY POWER has held, too. We had one power outage late last year that affected the traffic lights at one major intersection not far from where I live. I felt lucky local people were sensible enough to be careful and let each other cross safely. Glad to hear Boyd is doing fine, too. He's a good guy. He's one of two modeling channels I watch fairly consistently. I tend to watch the channels where people don't snipe at each other, whether it's in messageboards or on video. I know Boyd had to address a situation with a former acquaintance in the modeling community and admire the way he handled it. I don't care for constant drama. I've dealt enough with that in my own family! Religion, money, and taxes -- taboo subject matter still. I'd add politics and the nastier elements of the ongoing political culture war to those taboo topics, too. Can't get away from it enough! We all know how that's affected our entertainment, and, unfortunately, Star Trek has been a casualty of it. That said, let's keep the main focus on modeling and general life!

Being in Canada, winter weather is just par for the course! When we purchased our house, I insulated our garage, replaced the garage doors with insulated doors, and use a small heater just to keep the temperature no lower than 18c. Important for the modeling supplies to maintain that temperature! I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with your 1:1400 E. I'm in the middle of mind numbing aztec and pinstripe painting and masking. I know the decals are faster, but I'm loving the way the paint is turning out!

Glad that you are doing well! Been thinking of you. Cold here in Wyoming but we are used to it and expect it. I kinda hold Texas close to my heart as my dad was stationed there in the early 70’s at Bergstrom AFB in Austin. I hope my decals go as well as yours
@georgemacgregor54373 жыл бұрын
Except for South Florida Thank God. Know what you are going through. I lived in NY for 32 years of my life and hated cold artic conditions. I think that's why I am a diehard modeler. It kept me busy during those cold winter months. Warm thoughts Boyd. Stay safe and keep on keeping on.

Looks fantastic. I’m currently applying similar decals to a 1/1400 Enterprise D. Patience is key, but the results are fantastic.

Man, I'd love for it to be 40 out. I'd toss on some shorts, a tshirt, and have me a cookout. Instead it's hovering right around 10 degrees during the days, and dropping down below zero at night. We hit -12 the other night. I got snow piled all over the place, and am running out of places to put it.

Glad to hear you're doing fine. It's finally starting to warm up here in Colorado so I'm sure you're going to warm up as well. Looks like the front is starting to move out thank goodness. Those decals turned out really great. It's the only way I'd tackle the aztecs on any of these models.

Our power went out at 3:30 am Monday and finally came on late Wednesday afternoon, haven't been able to do any modeling till today now that my heater has warmed the house back up. Stay warm, happy modeling. The starship really looks good.

Up here in East Texas it snowed twice and the roads are packed with snow and topped with ice and driving conditions are dangerous.
@Dirks_NUMA_Files3 жыл бұрын
The Enterprise looks great. It seems a bit darker then I recall from the show but I like it. Since you can'y build you might as well go out and enjoy the snow for a bit. Build a snow spock (snowman)or make a snow andorian (snow angel).

Your craftsmanship is amazing. Gearing up to get back into Trek builds. Your videos will come in handy. Where do you order your LED strips from? What temp color do you typically use?

Really enjoyed this build...inspired to build mine now! Was there ever a final part to applying the decals....and a final reveal? Can't seem to find one.
@thearthound2 жыл бұрын
Well, I just watched this entire build, and have very much enjoyed my night. It's now 3:45 am. So yeah, my entire night. LOL. Kind of funny. I'm up here in Fort Worth, and we have another winter blast coming tomorrow. Not as bad this time they say. My question is: Where is the final video? I've looked, & looked. Am I just so tired that I'm missing it?

Decals are a godsend or representative of the struggle between Satan and God -- to torture my metaphor! When they work, it's great. Nice to hear you're okay-- the news out of Texas sounds rough all over. Nice torch-work-- modeling saves the day!

Hey man. Did the 72" TOS model get put on hole due to covid? I can only find 3 vids on it, looks very impressive!
@nathanwilkins30393 жыл бұрын
Great job so far, Boyd. I have the polar lights light kit for this model and disappointed they didn’t include Navs. I noticed you added your own in a previous video. Would the navs for the 1/1000 refit from Tenacontrols work with this size model?
@TrekWorks3 жыл бұрын
Yes that should work or you could simplify it and use a slow blinking LED wired in series to other LEDs and make all of them blink at the same rate and stay synced. Just put the different colored LED's where you want them.
@nathanwilkins30393 жыл бұрын
@@TrekWorks That actually would be a much cheaper route. All I want is just the red and green Nav lights. I’ll have to look back on a previous video of yours that talked on that. Thanks! Stay safe and warm.

Yeah I have to admit those fine wrinkles were making me a bit nervous as well. Lol. Do they always settle fine on their own, without any Micro Sol applied? I didn't see you brushing any on in the prior video...
@TrekWorks3 жыл бұрын
Yes, most of the time when you see only fine looking wrinkles the decals will dry perfectly smooth. I haven't used a drop of setting solution on this so far.

Hey boy my name is John I was wondering how much would it cost to do the 1350th scale Enterprise with lights and LEDs let me know thank you

Wow, Guess Texas really did get hit hard.. Sorry ta here about that.. Like I said before I know the cold up here in Wyoming :/ Meantime I got a question if I may for anyone out there: I'm getting ready to start airbrushing my first model after all the years with my new Airbrush and I came to the realization that these little jars of Enamel and Acrylic thinners I purchased online wont last long if I also use them to also clean the airbrush. I'd like to purchase a big can of something for cleaning the airbrush that will last for a while.. But the only stores I have access to are a Walmart and Home Depot.. Is there some sort of lets say general purpose cleaner/thinner I might be able to find at one of those stores that will do the job??
@TrekWorks3 жыл бұрын
Good old lacquer thinner will do the job. You can buy it by the pint or even a gallon at Lowe's or Home Depot.
@Spindrift-id1ez3 жыл бұрын
@@TrekWorks Plain ol' Lacquer Thinner.. COOL!.. Thanks Boyd.. Man it'll be nice when I fully get back into the modeling swing. This whole Enamel vs Acrylic paint thing can drive ya nuts. Back in my day it was simply Testors Enamels jars and rattle cans, Now we got Tamiya AND Model Master Acrylics which in some ways have differences. Seems you can easily hand brush Tamiya Acrylic, but have to thin it for Air Brushing while Model Master Acrylics are pre thinned and can't be brushed. All of which I'm sure you know already.. But it can still get a little confussing.. I already had my first boo boo the other night where i wanted to thin one of my Tamiya Acrylics and I accidentally added enamel thinner :/

I’m not that familiar with the Discovery Enterprise. Is the contrast on the Aztec’s that much? Seems like the shades would be closer together.
