Back in the 1930s, people on US 66 in that area would have to wait days for the muddy road to dry out after a rainstorm. The US 66 was mostly dirt in those days.
@muffs55mercury61
@muffs55mercury61 3 жыл бұрын
True. Most historians never mention that virtually all of 66 (except when you drop down into the Mojave desert) was prone to snowstorms and blizzards. Even by the 1940s when it was all paved it was dangerous in that kind of weather with it being unlit and unable to see the shoulder and traffic was heavy even then.

@@catfan5756 Technically, off grid means not connected to the electrical power grid. Many people living off grid have solar power, and if they have a smart phone, they can connect to the internet via their phone.

@@ILGuy2012 I know that but most people consider living off the grid to be without a electrical line and without internet access. I used to not have any internet access but I had a power line and everyone considered that to be off the grid. The internet is also a grid of servers located in various places.

This is why you should always have your emergency kit on board.

Why else would you have your emergency kit? People say the stupidest things sometimes. What’s in that emergency kit that would help these people stranded? Curious what yours has in it, medical supplies aside. what else can you bring with you a tent?

@@pattiwilloby4867 exactly. Heat or cold when in places like this with distances between towns that you travel regularly (or even a road trip) have a small plastic crate in the trunk with drinks, energy snacks, a light weight blanket (the car itself will provide some additional warmth), torch, even pet treats if you travel with an animal to tide your over for up to 24-48 hours. Look at all these stinking trucks! The US needs to nationalize and expand the rail system to carry this cargo, rather than allowing its roads to be so dangeriously overcrowded and suffering the damage caused by these heavy behemoths with their often incompetent drivers.

That goes both ways with four wheelers, I been driving for 14 years after discharged from the US Army(Honorable Active) but my luck came to an end two weeks ago because some very intelligent four wheeler believes in out running my truck when I was turning left. After I got off the I-10 west bound AZ/CA state line,so there isn’t room for any vehicle to squeeze by on the left. But this driver decided to squeezed by my truck while my focus was on the traffic to my left/right and straight away. Than I heard that crunch sound to my left, as I turned to my left and looked over my shoulder, there was a vehicle wedged underneath my trailer, the top was completely cut off by my trailer. The driver was fortunate enough to dug her down or she could have been head less. The female driver got off her vehicle and began yelling and screaming at me as I stopped immediately to make sure the driver was okay. She began cursing at me and accusing me of running her over. While all the drama unfold, two Arizona State Troopers witnesses the accident. The two officers walked towards me and the lady. The female driver tells the troopers that I hit her that it was my fault for not give her the right of ways. The two officers told her that she’s was the one that needs to stay behind the truck that she tries to squeeze behind my trailer and was wedged in between the cement blocks. The officers showed her the video footage. Than she calms down. We exchanged information than the officers asked if she needed medical attention,but the lady refused. Also to say stinking trucks, nowadays the vast majority of the trucks on the runs with Diesel Exhaust Fluid or (DEF) with is water base that is use to treat those black stinky dirty smokes you used to see back in the days. Nowadays if you see those trucks with those black smoke,it won’t take long the drivers and or the owners will be cited by the DOT officers and that the vehicle will be banned and sited for owning a tractor that isn’t compliance with federal regulations. The fines could get quite costly,Especially in the State of California. If any older trucks you see in California that are build before 2009 or older ,those trucks must have a DPF. Diesel Particulate Filters in order to operate in California. That’s why more and more trucking companies are going out of business at a staggering rates.
