Hi, great video, 28 years active with British Special Forces. Teaching winter / desert / all terrain survival. I am. Always amazed at the load of rubbish the armchair and hobby survivalists talk about on there Channels. You are the only bloke who talks sense. Why make a hobby out of hard and dangerous situations. Survival is more a state of mind and preparedness. Thinking ahead, keeping calm and understanding your limitations. Why rub sticks to make a fire and waist calories and time when a fire is needed quickly. Lighters and matches do the job, weigh little and are easily stowed. Knowing alternative methods great, but only become useful in circumstances when all else has failed. Love the way you can honestly say you get spooked alone at night in challenging conditions even when you are in familiar situations. When you are out of your comfort zone every one is producing adrenaline ready for fight or flight. Knowing this can prevent panic the biggest killer in all Survival situations. I worked a lot of the time in Norway Sweden and Finland. Russia, your neck of the woods was not welcoming then. Lol. Might have been there on occasions but I think Mr Khrushchev and Brezhnev would have not seen it as awwsum lol. So we just popped in and out as it were. Great videos full of good advice and as an “ old timer” like your philosophy. Happy new year to you and Mrs Russia and the Niger’s blue and Pink.

Notching the logs with the saw to give the fire something to bite into is a great tip, thanks! I don't like to carry hatchets or axes anymore unfortunately because they can be beautiful tools but are simply too heavy of an addition to an already weighted pack, and here we can accomplish the same idea by making notches and chopping them up with a belt knife 👍

.I'm only ten minutes into the video, but I want to say this now. Don't ever apologize for working smarter instead of harder. And your integrity is priceless. I'm guessing 95% of people would have NOT admitted they scavenged that dry wood and just took credit for work they didn't do. I'm just saying. I've always...since childhood, been honest to a fault. In 51 years I've known less than five people with genuine integrity. Two of them are family. Just wanted to say that. You may say you were just talking for the video because truly honest people also tend to be humble. Of course...I might change my opinion after more videos.😄This is only my third.....🙊🤐

99%of us watch because you're honesty and openness. There's no need to make excuses for the 1% sitting in their moms basement and trying to say that you're doing it wrong. Seriously they wouldn't survive a normal day out there let alone a real survival situation. Most of us are smart enough to know that most guys making videos have things prepared behind the scenes and the ones that talk the most trash are the worst of the bunch.

You already have much dead wood on the ground to start a fire and just have to collect enough to keep the fire going. I saw part two first and loved it so much and I would have used a trash bag or two to fill with leaves to lay on when going to sleep though. It is lighter and I keep four of them in my backpack even though I carry a backpack and pad to put under my sleeping bag so I am warmer. I don't carry an ax or hatchet with me, but do have a saw and knife to help me out when camping out.
