You can extend the life of these if you're not going to be using them for the full 8 to 10 hours by putting the pair of warmers in a zip-lock sandwich bag, squeeze out the air, zip it closed. I have gotten a week out of one pair since I go out for an hour in the morning to walk with my cat. Come in, put them in the bag for this evening's walk of about the same duration. So far, have gotten 6 days! I keep them in my jacket pockets, too much exposure to the air will cause them to die out earlier. Stay warm out there folks! I keep a healthy supply of these in my car's trunk.

I just thought of another great winter survival tool, Milwaukee has their heated hoodies/jackets that run off the same 12volt battery system their tools use. You take your 12volt battery, connect it to your power source adapter and then plug it into the jacket and tuck the battery away in the pocket. While this isn't anything new, the cool part is that Milwaukee redesigned their power source adapter to where you can recharge your battery from the adapter itself, so you can take your favorite solar recharging tool to recharge your battery for constant heat. Plus the batteries are compact enough that you could keep several fully charged in a bugout bag

Sootch, I use both the toe and hand warmers...great. When shooting I wear fingerless gloves stick a mega warmer on the back of hand (where the arteries run close to surface) then over mitts (with hole for trigger finger) with a hand warmer dropped in Palm area. Toe warmers and if just dam bitter cold here in the Great Lakes State I will put a full foot warmer in my mucklucks or winter boots. Feet stay warm about 7 hours. Hands longer. Down side is cost $6 to $10 bucks for a day. I also write date on individual package and use them up that year. Any that are in my hunt pack or jacket get used first the following fall. Best

I also store 2 extra hand warmers in each of my winter mitts. Minus 20°F minus wind chill last night, balmy 7F this am. Best

My coat has zipped pockets in the kidney section. If you can keep a mass of your core warm, the rest will stay warm due to blood flow. Nice idea for working out side or sitting on the deer stand all day. My wife stashes them everywhere. We had the -30 here and several days bellow zero the entire day. If you want a safe zone just stay here for the winter. Even the dumbest crook won't go out in this.

On the small hand warmers:.....If you mess with them to much they will start to have some of the activating chemicals come out of the seam. I now put some tape over the seam to make sure I do not end up with a pocket full of the activating chemicals. What I mean by messing with them is that one has a tendency to squeeze the packets when they are in your pocket or hand muff.
