I like the flex steps for my all around use. I have no trouble with traction on the trail and they are more comfy and stay put better than the chain style and don't collect snow like the chain style.

A trick: you can watch series on Flixzone. I've been using them for watching loads of movies recently.

Thanks for the video. I was in idaho last winter and wished I had something like this! I was on a trail Iv wanted to hike for years snd the weather was nice so thought by rugged outdoor boots would be enough, after 1/2 mike if slipping and falling multiple times I had to turn around it one more good fall I wouldn’t make it out. Will pick up a pair today

Hi Dave, thank you for this great review! My wife always wants to go on hikes in the snow with me. Maybe this ist what we were looking for to get enough grip on icy trails. The FlexSteps seem like a good choice for our needs.

The FlexSteps are a solid choice for solid ice and packed snow. Thanks for watching Marius!

I bought a pair of the Ultras recently after hitting an icy trail with just my boots and decided there had to be a better way

I have the flex and the trail, I like them for running on ice (Salomon Speedcross for the deep snow in the Berkshires, need more grip than a crampon). I used to use the YakTrax but after clipping my ankles and almost bleeding out, I realized I needed something better (user error, I'm sure)
@ChaseTheSummit4 жыл бұрын
Those spiral Yaktrak things never worked for me. I actually would rather use sheet metal screws in the bottom of my shoes! But the Hillsound stuff is really nice! Thanks for watching.

I’m from Australia and have only seen snow twice in my life yet I still sat here and watched the video, think I’m a bit addicted to the channel.

Interesting! I could have used at least the middle option of these crampons a few weeks ago when we still had like 4 cm (yes I know that´s not much) of ice on the sidewalks around the city where I live in Austria. Early february has been way too warm, feels like spring with up to 11°C.
@ChaseTheSummit4 жыл бұрын
Check out the Hillsound website. They have a few other options but I think the Flexsteps are the least aggressive. Thanks for watching!

Sheet metal screws are hard to beat assuming you have an old pair of shoes
@ChaseTheSummit4 жыл бұрын
For sure! I still use screw shoes but when things get a little steeper crampons are SOOO much better. Plus, they don’t fall out. I always loose screws at the fells!

I’ve used Kahtoola micro spikes for years successfully in the winter in the Scottish mountains. The ultra seems similar.

Thanks for the review. Could've used some this past Sunday lol! Q1: can I use these with my trail shoes or do I use with my road shoes? Q2: will my Stryd pod fit on the front of the shoe, or will the crampons obstruct the Stryd? I am also looking at the Kahtoola spikes, any thoughts? Thank you!
@ChaseTheSummit4 жыл бұрын
Interesting question about the Stryd Pod I haven't tried them together. You can use these with trail or road shoes but the "Flexsteps" work best on the roads. Thanks for watching!
@alancampbell62364 жыл бұрын
I use Salomon Spikecross and I think they are more versatile, because running on a road to the woods is no issue, they are great on ice and they wear like normal trail running shoes.
@ChaseTheSummit4 жыл бұрын
Those look sweet! The only thing that scares me is how expensive they are and how fast spikes tend to wear out. Have yours dulled up over time?
@alancampbell62364 жыл бұрын
@@ChaseTheSummit I bought mine 5 years ago and for a much lower price! The pins are made of tungsten carbide, like those for walking sticks. This material is very durable and they still look like new. Nevertheless I try to avoid road and I just have between 200m and 1km to the next trails from my home.
@MiJuMoritz3 жыл бұрын
Looks nice. Salomon tends to really wear out fast if worn on asphalt. For my usage I would rather go with the Salming ISpike for running on icy streets. I'm assume that "crampon" stuff is good for quite fresh snow? This winter I switched to snow shoes, or for the mountain the AustriAlpin Grödel. But that's not running any more. www.austrialpin.at/en/products/crampons-and-groedel/detail/sg01p-power-grip-6-point-groedel/

Any videos on keeping feet and toes warm on cold winter days?
@ChaseTheSummit4 жыл бұрын
Working on one this week 👍
@Wigglythegreat22 жыл бұрын
I use the small hothands toe warmers stick on style. I stick them to the top of my sock over my toes first before I put my shoes on. They work better on top for me because putting them under the toes is uncomfortable and sweat makes them clumpy. They last a long time and if you put them in a ziploc bag and get the air out, you might get more than one use out of them.

I see that all 3 variants are size M. Are they true to size fit for your Lone Peaks 4.5 in size 10.5? Also, did you try Hillsound FreeSteps6?
@ChaseTheSummit3 жыл бұрын
I didn't try the freesteps. For my 10.5 shoe the M works best. The L would probably be a little too loose. Thanks for watching!
@rrrayer38213 жыл бұрын
Can you use these on trainers?
@ChaseTheSummit3 жыл бұрын
Sure, it just helps if they have a sort of stiff sole. Otherwise the flex can cause the crampon to pop off.

Decent. I may snag a pair. Just started watching. Edit: Finished watching. I think I'm good with just a pair of trail shoes for my purposes. These seem kind of overkill.
