Camping overnight with my kids once in awhile yes, but living out of a truck and traveling the country wouldn't happen today's kids aren't built for anything but staring at screens all day it's sad but true! Not too mention as long as I have kids and mouths to feed and piles of bills I'm not financially stable enough to quit my job and live out of a truck lol I appreciate all the encouragement though

I live in Alaska and have camped in 0°F a handfull of times. I think a lot of people dont realize that even with a quality sleeping bag, when you're camping like this it is extremley hard to get the motivation to do activities outside of the warm sleeping bag. Huge props to you Mav for being able to cook a whole meal with your arms out of the bag. It really takes motivation and effort.

Hi Mav Maybe for winter camping/cooking, freeze small portions of your olive oil in ice cube trays and transfer them into a zip lock bag. You can add chopped garlic, herbs etc in some of them. Just a thought to make life easier 😊

Whoa you have a lot of moisture in your truck! 😮 You might want to get a bag of silica kitty litter, put it in a sturdy pillow case that has a zipper and leave it in your truck. It gathers moisture from the air and after it's filled up you can reuse it - just put it on a radiator at home for a day or two and it'll be as good as new. Also, for pasta e fagioli (just say "pasta fazool" and you're pretty close to how the italians say it) you'll be better off either draining the liquid and rinsing the beans or, having no chance of doing that, scooping the beans from the tin with a fork so you can minimize the amount of the liquid getting into the food as the food will be tastier that way.

I have a zero degree bag I got from Walmart. It was 30 bucks and I was extremely skeptical 😂. Surprisingly i woke up in the middle of the night sweating in the bag and it was 28 degrees in a normal tent. Needless to say they work pretty well! Definitely don’t need to overdress when you’re in those bags.

I bought the like $50 Coleman one and it’s been great! I actually prefer using it as more of a top layer blanket paired with my puffy down blanket. It can definitely get hot. But if I’m really cold I snuggle with my pup, he’s always warm. We’re traveling around out of the back of my car right now and exploring the country

I also bought a zero-degree bag from Walmart when my heater stopped working. I think it was 50 or 60 bucks and it's worked wondered for the past 4 years both for indoor and outdoor use. Really comfy and warm, my only complaint is that it takes awhile to "fluff" back up after you unwrap it.

I just got home from a truck camp (on the Central Coast of Cali) and we got hit by that cold snap as well. 3pm weather check said a low of 38, and that night we got hit with 23 F!!! which is a super rarity around these parts. I did kind of the same thing where i left the heater off because i got a 0 degree rated bag that i usually use more as just bedding but it saved my butt!! Keep on trucking Mav!!

Mav. I have a good Idea for cooking. Pre make your meals at home and then use a bag sealer to put the food in. Then when you head out on the ice you just boil water and drop the bag into the water and it heats it up. I've done this many times. It works great!.

Hey Mav, was gonna recommend insulation foam board to keep your camper shell warm! It's really cheap at home depot and easy to cut. I recommend using it to cover your windows to keep the heat from radiating outward!

Instead of keeping your index finger resting on the top edge of the blade, choke up, and have your thumb and index finger gripping the blade on each side right above the handle. I live on a boat on the English canals, and it's often very cold at night in the winter if I haven't lit the fire that evening. Three words of advice. "Hot water bottle". It's the simplest, cheapest, easiest way to stay warm in bed. Buy one, and you won't regret it!

You should try and make Budae Jjigae for a nice winter meal super warming! There are plenty of recipe on the web. My camping version is instant ramyun (I use Shin ramyun) chopped up hotdogs, spam, mushrooms, scallions, minced garlic and if you can find it korean chilli powder (gochugaru) or hot sauce. add water with ramyun seasoning packet with everything else and bring it all to a boil and once ramyun is tender top it off with a few slices of american cheese. Guarantee it'll be amazing!

You should try a pourtugues bean soup we love it in Hawaii 1.5 pounds smoked ham hocks (about 4 pieces) 1 large onion, diced 2 large carrots, diced 2 large potatoes, diced 2 15-ounce cans kidney beans 1 15-ounce can diced tomatoes 1 small can tomato paste 1 10-ounce Portuguese sausage stick 1 small head of cabbage (napa or green), chopped 1 cup macaroni noodles, uncooked if you want it Just Boil till everything is soft enough for you but Boil the meat first save the broth add everything to it and boil till ready to eat
