This is our trawler life story.
We retired early and decided to make a big change. We sold everything and moved aboard our 54' Cheoy Lee passagemaker, a “go anywhere in the world”, ocean going power boat.
That was in 2014 and we have never looked back.
Now in our late 50's we are free of work and we are living aboard and cruising our trawler full time.
We have two additional crew members, feline brothers, Blake and Barkley. Yes, we have two brave (sorta) boat cats, on board!
Join us and our crew, on our adventures as we explore new places, discover more about our trawler and what makes her work, and learn more about ourselves in our young retirement years. Our hope is to entertain and inspire you to pursue your own passions through telling our story of our cruising trawler lifestyle.
We end most episodes with a “Trawler Q&A” where we answer your questions.
Thanks for watching, subscribing, and liking Cruising Sea Venture!
Best, Jim, Rosy, Blake and Barkley

That appeared to be a nice laid-back long cruise. Enjoyed your motoring on the water while enjoying the scenery as you go by.

Hi Jim and Rosy - I enjoy watching your every video. I saw your electrical upgrade you did a while back. In this episode you show a bit of the monitoring control for your battery banks. This time it resonates louder to me as I have been dealing with my own. I installed the Easyvew 5 integrated with my Mastervolt charger, but of easy - I did not find any easy about it - so much so it is useless to me as there is little information about it and even the manual is not helpful. I am happy for you with your easy-to-read system.

I admire your ability to be able to do what you are doing. However I am a motorhead and I would want alot faster boat and bigger engines. Love the nature shots. Hope you film more animals!

So, that's something I have always wondered about... cruising with Cats. We have two, and am curious to see how they might like / adjust to it?

They are doing great. They are not so sure about rough water, but with time they seem to be getting more and more use to the floor moving around. Thanks for watching, Jim

Got my boat in for a refit. Not a Sea Venture style refit. I'm keeping my house, lol... Heading north due to the excellent tour details on your trips.

what I like is you show what cruising is really like. Hours of boredom with a few minutes of action.

Hi guys, I was wondering if you run any kind of cell boosters and what do you do when you are at your home port in terms of connection to any TV networks? Do you have a collection of CD’s or do you download for playback later? Do you have a beefed up data plan? Sorry for the stupid questions but my wife and I are making plans to make the move to a live-aboard and like you guys we don’t want to be camping, so keeping connected and being able to view internet based content is part of the considerations. Any thoughts you have on the topic would be appreciated. Continued safe travels!

In Alaska we changed our phone plan to GCI - the local carrier. They have unlimited hotspot data plans. We have a Roku TV, so as long as we have cell coverage we have our Netflix, Amazon Prime and Disney+. We also have KZbin Premium, one, so we don't have to watch the annoying commercials, and two, so we can download videos. When out cruising we watch downloaded movies, DVD's and downloaded KZbin content. Hope that helps. Jim

It would be interesting to actually see the process for deploying the fish and retrieving them. You could add some time lapse footage of the travel, so we can see what is happening. ( some may even enjoy a forward view camera showing real time of a days travel. )

Jaqui, We have revised how we launch the fish, so it's a one person job. As a result, Rosy was able to film me deploying the fish. It is coming an upcoming video in a couple of weeks. You remain right on the mark. We are in the middle of adding cameras to the boat (8 in all). Mostly it's to help with docking and observing the engine room, but we added a DVR to the system, so it's all filmed in 4K. We hope we are able to pull video from the new system for our videos. It is only partially installed (3 cameras so far). It's a lot of wiring to sort out, but should be done in the next few weeks. Thanks for watching, Jim

So I just asked in the Trawler Forum after watching some of your video, what happens when a paravane line snags a log or whatever?
@CruisingSeaVenture
@CruisingSeaVenture 3 жыл бұрын
Rick, Great question. The chain cuts right through bull kelp and other type items on the surface. Logs have just spun off of it. It the fish really snagged something bigger, like a big log or the bottom or something, it is designed to fail at the chain. It would take approximately 7,500 lbs of force to break the chain, which is the designed weak link in the system. This protects the boat from being pulled over or any damage to the paravane system. We do have an extra set of paravanes and chains on board. But, I think this is extremely rare. So far, when we have hit logs with the chain it has just spun off. They are not that far from the boat - 20 feet away, so it's not like we would normally ever come that close to a log, but you could at night. Thanks, Jim

What is the buzzing sound you hear periodically during the video in the pilothouse? Is that the autopilot?
@CruisingSeaVenture
@CruisingSeaVenture 3 жыл бұрын
It is the auto pilot hydraulic pump. It's inside the cabinet under the helm. It's not as loud on real life and it sounds on camera. Thanks for watching.
