Kind of ironic that a black metal band comes up with the best English folk album in ages, but Winterfylleth just did that.

England? Is that you? Home sweet home. Our forests predate countries, absolute beauty they are.

I appreciate the sentiment, and I love this - but this coniferous forest is a commercial plantation not native to England to be honest!

@@mgekelly Very true. You only see native forests really up North. Sherwood is a good example though.

Very VERY different from their previous fare (considering Green Cathedral is one of my favorite tracks) but a great platform to showcase the extraordinary talent and versatility that exists in the metal genre, which in itself, is a thumb in the eye to its detractors.

You could say that a lot of music bears facets that are quintessentially English. Vaughan Williams' 'The Lark Ascending', the Folk Rock of the 60's, the mad prog rock of the 60's and even London's punk and NWOBHM scenes. However I don't think I've heard ever heard anything that has articulated the feeling of growing up in the shadow of the English countryside as well as this.

The Hallowing of Heirdom Old are the woods And the buds that do break From the coarse brier's boughs, When the fierce winds wake. Old are our ways As the streams that still rise, Where the snow now sleeps cold In the deep azure skies. So, who are we now, A horde of their ghosts? Or oaks that were acorns, From the trees of their hopes? Sing of such a history, Of come and of gone. If their means they were wise, In ourselves they live on. So, who are we now, A horde of their ghosts? Or oaks that were acorns, From the trees of their hopes?
