Spirit really dropped the ball, not using his remaining workers to mine the mineral walls. theres even few patches in the base near center of map

Yeah Spirit weirdly just decided the last 250-500ish minerals on his side of the map weren't worth mining, slightly frustrating

@@polygondwanaland8390 It was more than 500 minerals. The center base he had, was probably 1000, plus there were golden mineral walls, and a few blue minerals in his secondary bases.

Arguably he would've probably lost anyway. Astrea is about the best lategame protoss player atm. I hope he continues to improve in the neeb fashion since neeb retired.

@@_Wai_Wai_Spirit had like 3000 minerals left over. The one patch had 935 and another patch had 750 or something. Then a few with a couple hundred left. That would have made a huge difference!

@@kenora101 yea, and it was so frustrating seeing his 20 something SCVs just sitting there, and they were close to the center mineral field. As I said, the golden mineral walls, and few patches left in secondary bases close to his main.

I was too, are Spirit and Winter both mineral blind? I was actually half expecting Astrea to start mining them and Spirit's mineral wall with his idle probes, but now I'm wondering if he did the 1000 IQ move of intentionally not so as to avoid reminding Spirit they were there.

Can confirm: I was yelling at my TV about the unmined patches like it was sportsball. Then, so dependent on Winter's unfailing expertise, almost gaslit myself into thinking they weren't actually there (they are doodads? destructible rocks?) and had to go to the liquipedia page to double check. I shudder and grimace at the thought of the cast ending with the lingering patches unacknowledged; where would I be, then? 2+2=5? Considering Flat Earth? Voluntarily entering the Church of Scientology again?

Spirit just left like 3k+ minerals at the rich vespene base for half an hour plus. He easily couldve mined it with the scvs and an orbital. Once the terrans fully mine out of the map, theres zero reason not to float back to the main and turtle. They have repairs. They have scans and sensor towers. They will force you into a fight that favors them or draw

in this case, Tempests are the stalemate-breaker. With their long range and tectonic destabilizers they shred entrenched positions. Astrea can slowly chip away at the outskirts of the Terran's position and be ready with templar & stalkers any time the Vikings move out to counter.

Of course there's a reason not to move back to home base. Tempests are gonna kill you easily and if protoss does not have to fear the viking cloud flanking, they can clear the map and EASILY win the game from there. That's not zerg there.

new to the whole SC2 tournament play so pardon my noob question. Do the players get to choose which faction they want to play in head to head, or are they drawn when they show up? the thought of not knowing which faction you will command would be really interesting but stressful for the player at same time. Make them well rounded or is that too much?

Yes, they choose the race they play before going into the match. It’s very very rare for one player to play multiple races at a professional level, so usually they just declare their race for the whole tournament.

While I generally agree the viking does its job a bit too well, leaving little to no room for the Battlecruiser to replace them, I think this game was a good demonstration that they're not the final word in air superiority. The range, the blink, splash, and the plasma shields kept the Vikings unable to breach the Protoss kill zone.

they should bring back the mothership with vortex, lockdown ability of the ghost, the red archon, the scourge of zergs, etc and put it in the sc2 engine. the more variety of units would make the games more interesting. sc1 vs sc2 is interesting because nobody knows what is going to happen. the same would be if you have a lot of new units inserted in the game

There was zero reason at all to throw those workers away, it was just plain stupid. Those few thousand minerals left to mine, the walls, even just fighting with the army Especially against the carriers at the end, he could've got level 3 mech armour (important!), repaired, even filling out the supply with marines It may not have been completely enough, but he threw Even just imagine 40 marines up north fighting the protoss buildings like..

Spending the gas on an extra medivac & 2 vikings is often more helpful than +3 armor, Stalker/Storm/Tempest is either spell or high burst damage. It does make a difference Vs Carriers but its very unusual to go back to Carriers so Spirit probably wasn't expecting it.
