Here is Wintersun's 'Eternal Darkness' with a different, slower drum track. I used EzDrummer 2 and Cubase 5. If you like the concept maybe I'll put more time into a more polished version. For now, enjoy the draft.

One thin I didn't like from the published Autumn was drum part being too busy. I usually skip to winter. I guess I'll enjoy this version more.

Ah...I just noticed this may not be by Wintersun, but made by a dedicated fan. I paid and downloaded bunch of files last summer and heard it has separate tracks. Maybe you made the best use of it. However it was made, I am surprised and thankful. It is always delightful to find a geniuses like Jari, Yngwie, Bill Gates, Jobs and so so but it is equally thrilling to realize there are just as geniuses right behind them.

That's right, I used the isolated tracks released by Wintersun, silenced the drum track and programmed my own. I'm just an idiot from Australia with an unhealthy obsession with Wintersun.

This version I actually understand the foundation of the blast beat drumming. I couldn’t tack down the rhythm. I love the different versions.

Weird how well this works. What's next? Loneliness with blast beats? yea, maybe not...

Thank you! This makes the song much more listenable than the album version! I was mostly ignoring this track until now!

Glad you like it! I was avoiding it at first too, but it eventually grew on me.

this is amazing, great work man! the last part 'death' could maybe be normal speed, so it's kind of a build up. just a thought :D

Thanks! Yeah there's definitely a lot of refinement that could be done, this is really just the first glimpse into the potential this sort of mix has.

I wonder if would sound like with even much slower drums, aiming for really doomy atmosphere?

Probably wouldn't work too well with the riffing, but hey it'd be amusing at least!

Wow, great work! This really makes it easier to listen to this song in more of a chilled mood. Is there any way for you to send me the original file, uncompressed by KZbin? :)

For future reference Xtreme download manager sourceforge.net/projects/xdman/files/ let's you download whatever you like from youtube, or indeed any other "video" site you might take fancy to.... The audio is in OPUS which is far superior to MP3 and can be ripped out of the video file with VLC or handbrake.

I actually prefer this version. The Album version just gets painful to my poor old earholes after the first minute or so.

Nice. The original had grown on me over time, but I am of the opinion that the some of the originally non-blast beat sections worked better with the earlier drums. And the end is so intense with blastbeats, I feel it may lose a little bit with slow drums. That said, this certainly has potential.

How did find out the exact tempo of the song?
@WintersunExtras7 жыл бұрын
First I imported it into Riffstation so it would detect the tempo (which came out at 152 BPM), but then when I was editing it in Cubase I just imported it, manually lined up the drum track with the first beat and adjusted the tempo til every beat lined up with the whole drum track. In this one I used 85 BPM.
@Slkfd557 жыл бұрын
Well, that's strange. I'll do it with midi drums so if I don't have the exact tempo (even if it's like 1 off) I'd have to first render the track and then stretch it accordingly... hmm, I'll see if I can figure it out.
@WintersunExtras7 жыл бұрын
I was using MIDI drums too, the only other thing to look out for is the time signature. In the beginning it sounded like 6/8 was best and it seemed like 3/4 was best in another section then back to 6/8, and a constant 85 BPM worked for me.
@Slkfd557 жыл бұрын
I wish Jari just released the isolated track package as ready project files with proper tempo markings lol
@WintersunExtras7 жыл бұрын
That'd just be TOO convenient! In case you didn't know; you can get the isolated tracks in FLAC or many other formats on their Bandcamp page. It's annoying how we were only given MP3s!

Drums are mixed too quiet and don't have much impact at all. It sounds like someone recorded them playing a basic beat with a shitty mic, because i can't even hear the bass drum. In the end this isn't so bad, however it needs a lot of work. I think from 6:15 to 10:50 the original drums fit very well in the song, have you thought about that?
@WintersunExtras7 жыл бұрын
Like I said in the description, this certainly isn't a finished product. I'll take your suggestions and use them if I come to making a more polished version.
@Mistted7 жыл бұрын
I know it's not a finished product, just giving my honest opinion because this has great potential to become a song that i would enjoy really much. I really hope you can make it sound like the real deal.
@WintersunExtras7 жыл бұрын
All good mate, this upload was somewhat of an experiment to get an idea of what the people want something like this to sound. I changed the drums entirely in this one, but the improved version would more than likely utilise some of the original drums.

To be honest it's cool but we don't feel the heart beat anymore so I think it's missing the concept.
