This song was played at a funeral i attended. When this song started playing loud at the chapel, place with great acoustics. For the memory of our late relative. It was, and will always be one of the most powerful and moving experiences of my life. I knew this song before that, but i had to read the lyrics more closely. I was awestruck. This is a masterpiece. Thank you.

I lost my father 5 months ago. Wintersun has a handful of songs that f*ck me up pretty bad if my mind is focusing on the song. You know, listening at loud volume, alone, nothing distracting me from it. This is obviously one of those songs. I f*cking love Wintersun. The music can be overwhelming at times. Actually, I should say it can _feel_ a bit overwhelming at times.

Now, at the age of 49, I first discovered Wintersun, through Teemu joining Megadeth. I have been a fan of metal all my life. I cannot believe I never heard them before. Beeing a Scandinavian and all. Couple years ago, I lost practically everything. My relationship after 15 years to been together ended in one night. I had to move out of our house. I lost my credibility and force to be homeless almost 4 months. I couldn't see my boys of age 3 and 5 for a many months. After fighting a many month, I fell down in to the depression. I lost the control of life, many of my friends left me, many of my relatives left me. I was a fucking wreck. But still I kept going on, for sake of my children. Now I am learning to live again. @GeneralBlackNorway6 жыл бұрын
@@spikren "The trail in the snow disappears," meaning all traces of the person disappears from the world. It disappears from memory basically. This song is following Eternal Darkness (Autumn) which basically ends in death, and this song can be understood as the spirit passing through to the other side from the living world, a sort of ghost story, trapped (at least momentarily) between worlds echoing in the loneliness and sadness of a depressed person. You could also understand it as the last moments before death, after the violent Autumn you wake up again one last time in the cold wastelands wandering aimlessly with the last energy left before succumbing. You can also think of it as metaphorical of course, it basically captures depression, feeling lost and detached from the world, as if you're a ghost and nobody knows you exist, ever falling more into and alternate reality inside your mind. "am I finally home" can be understood as that feeling before death where your life flashed before your eyes and you hold on to dear memories. It can also be seen as accepting your own death and wondering if you will finally be at peace. Perhaps it implies heaven? It is vague and ambiguous, which makes it so good as lyrics, because people can relate and interpret the message from their own point of view and derive meaning from it even if the writer perhaps had other ideas. The theme of loneliness is pretty clear though.

Lyrics: Once I saw the light in your eyes but nothing will be any longer the way I remember. I've become someone else and I can't go back, I tried. I'm lost in the fields of snow far from home. Follow the coast under the frozen sky, with a growing sorrow in weary eyes. Swallow the ghost of the lucid dream, and silent will be the mournful sea. The sands of life covered in white from the darkest nights to the blinding light. I almost reached home, I was so close, but to be left alone is what hurts the most. Am I the only one awake, am I the one who is fading away? There was so much I wanted to say, do I have a reason anymore to stay? Washed away by the morning sun, hear the howling call from the other side. And so much was left undone, the weight of the world quietly crushed the dying light. Washed away by the frozen stars, feel the burning coldness of the falling snow. And one day when everything is gone the trail in the snow disappears. Am I finally home? Washed away by the morning sun, washed away by the frozen stars. And so much was left undone, one day everything is gone.

I love the tone of the chorus. Yet sad it gives such a triumphant echo, acknowledging surviving something unfathomable that now makes you a new man. Acknowledging death and how close you are to death, and allowing that to empower you instead of being crushed by the dying light (the weight of the world being all the obligations you acknowledge you do not have the time to complete). The purifying force of winter is being related to the purifying force of death, returning you to an equal state among others,no longer alone, reunited and "finally home" with the ultimate source, reintegrated back into nature. These tracks are such a unique way of interpreting the seasons, Spring being about carrying the wounds of winter, yet to me this track is about celebrating surviving the winter by embracing the positive side of death. I know lyrically its not that "positive" but the music to me is too empowering not to think positively about the theme. Its not until your alone you know who to live for, its not until you near death that you know why to live.

I find both versions highly enjoyable. I've definitely listened to them more than the other songs in the forest package. I second Richard's comment for the most part, although I think this version and the acoustic version both have elements that I kind of prefer to their counterparts, so they both keep drawing me back. The two versions are quite different to me in sound and emotional feeling. The acoustic version to me is more like a gentle, pure sadness (beautiful), whereas the album version is more distressed and despairing. They're different enough that I can listen to both of them a lot without feeling so much like I'm over-listening to the same song :D I appreciate them individually. I love songs with a powerful sort of feeling for want of a better way of putting it, and songs that feel like they express strong raw emotions, so Loneliness is one of my favourites now. Kiitos :D

I keep going back to this one when I have writers block because it paints the perfect picture of solitude and desolation in my mind, and the unmatched skill level that went in to composing this is very inspiring. During the many many times I've listened to this album I feel like, in a sense, a part of me goes to this realm Jari and Wintersun have so masterfully depicted. If you think of “The Forest Seasons” album as representing the passing of an entire year marked by its changing seasons, then by now the amount of cumulative in album “years” worth of time spent in this realm while I've been listening feels as though it's approaching an entire lifetime. It's like this part of me has aged and matured during its time there, and now as if returning back to myself a little wiser and irreversibly changed by my experiences, I’m left with a profound sense that I've become something better than I was before.

This song must be the crown jewel in Jari's career. So many emotions, dreams, joys and sorrows meshed into one shape of glorious majesty. This song paints a sky of deepest blue upon a landscape of brightest white, the silent sleep of winter.

Saw this live 2 days ago and was easily the best live performance I’ve ever seen. He aces every note live sounds exactly like studio version

I love his cleans so much here, he has improved soo much. I wonder if he'll ever sing it live, or if we'll see a music vid of this song, who knows. I just really love his performance here. Probably my most fav track on the album since I have a soft spot for sad songs (like Time, Death and the Healing, etc, but this is the most touching of them all for me personally). We need that HQ fast..
@shinma9897 жыл бұрын
My first time hearing his cleans was in like '06/'07 on Death and the Healing. It put me off to them for a few months and I came back only for the shred and drums. I now bask in his voice almost daily lol

Well according to a friend of mine who's going to summer breeze: Wintersun will also do acoustic sessions. So they probably will play this song.

That piercing vibrato falsetto from Jari commencing from 10:14 to 10:32 is penultimate pain, and the true masterpiece of this track. His emotions for his father rings ever so true here, and his pain is shared in likeness by so many. Wonderful artistry Jari, Bellissimo.

This may sound silly, but I couldn't help but think of my recently departed 20 year old cat--whom I've known for the full 20 years of her life--as I listened to this song. Jari's powerful lyrics and especially his chorus brought back the tears. I still miss her so much. I'm currently caring for my elderly parents, and I know someday (perhaps even soon) I will return to this song with a renewed reason to shed tears...twice. I know this song will help get me through the pain. Kiitos, Jari. Thank you, Wintersun.

This song has won my heart. Reminds me of the time in my childhood when I followed my bigger brother out into a blizzard to find a neighbor for help to get food. I sank in the snow and couldn't move. Miraculously he heard my cries and literally carried me through the snow back home. This song was how I felt before he found me.

These days are lonely. I had a walk at nightfall, going where my footsteps would lead me. There was a cold wind, softly carrying the scent of winter. And this song echoed to my ears. Dear Loneliness. And I told myself that it was exactly, exactly what solitude felt like.

I could tell that this song was going to be somewhat emotional...but i didn't expect it to have me shaking on the brink of tears... Made a reaction video to this masterpiece and I haven't been able to stop listening to it. Thank you again Jari and all of Wintersun for the amazing, emotional and epic music you guys put out!!!
