To me, that song is definetely their best song or three reasons : the emotion into Jari's voice, the music that portrait perfectly winter (small details like hearing wind) and as you said the fact that the music depict sadness without lyrics. Jari wrote this song and Eternal Darkness (Autumn) after his father death. While loneliness (Winter) is about the feeeling of being empty after accepting the loss, Eternal Darkness is about the pain of loosing that someone. So I highly recommend you listen to it, since it suppose to go first. Be ready for a total opposite atmosphere : pure madness... Listenning to Autumn then Winter in a row is so amazing !

Such a beautiful ballad, one of my favorites! Its' predecessor on the album (Eternal Darkness - Autumn) is also worth checking out. It's completely opposite to it - dark, brutal, black metal style song with harsh vocals, portraying the dark Finnish autumn. It's written from "Death's" perspective and also has to do with the passing of Jari's father.

My favourite Wintersun song, reason is it hits home hard since I lost my father to cancer after a short but very intense battle against the cancer (when he finally got it verified that had cancer it was to late to do anything already)

Please do "Wintersun - The Way Of The Fire (Live in Hollywood Multicam) [Remaster]" It's a track from their highly anticipated album Time II and I'd say easily the best song they've ever written. The recording might not be studio quality but the experience is more than worth it.

Great reaction, thank you! It is wonderful how you have the patience to listen carefully and appreciate all the subtle details. I love this song, too. Like you say, in its simplicity it so beautifully expresses emotion. I think it stems from the same source and long musical tradition in Finland as do songs like "Pale Morning Star" by Insomnium (lyric video) or "Endlessness" by Nightwish (lyric video) where sorrow linked to the inevitability of death is elevated and embraced so that it touches the listener profoundly. The picture of the beautiful snowy landscape was taken by Jari himself when walking nearby his home. In the "Wintersun - Forest Documentary" Jari explains the frustration of having these massive, very specific visions for his music and not having the means to realize them, and how they achieved to create the album "Time I" in the end. It is very interesting and definitely worth watching.

@@Yeedeed Yes, I just watched your reaction to the Pale Morning Star and you really seemed to enjoyed it. Fantastic! Thanks for adding "Endlessness" to your list. It is my favorite song by Nightwish. It is from their latest album "Human :II: Nature" and sung by their bassist Marko Hietala who recently left the band. 😥 Nightwish has such an amazing, varied catalogue. Many masterpieces throughout their career to be discovered. 😊 Other great songs with high quality music videos would be "Take Me Away" by Kalmah and "Cathedrals of Mourning" by Belzebubs. The latter is a heavy metal group of cartoon characters and the video is quite funny!

@@Yeedeed Oh, you will be pleasantly surprised, because "Slow Love Slow" (sang by Anette Olzon?) is not even in my top 100 of Nightwish songs. The other two vocalists, the original singer Tarja Turunen and current singer Floor Jansen, have both impressive range and such beautiful tone of voice. Thanks for adding the songs to your list! Absolutely love your reaction! It's a masterpiece indeed. So good that it would actually be my all time favorite, but the previous song in the album is even better imho, though it's more divisive. Some love it, some don't, at all. Perhaps it's because it's black metal so it's not so easy to get into. If you like black metal, give Eternal Darkness (Autumn) a go. I would love to see your reaction to it.

16:30 "Kai didn't have to do anything crazy" The drums in this one are actually programmed, so no Kai. I believe he was busy with Nightwish so wasn't available for recording the drums for the album.

Next reaction should be Death and the healing (if you want clear vocals) in this song you'll hear the greatest sweeping guitar parts this world has ever seen. If you want something harsh listen to Winter madness which has arguably the greatest guitar solo ever written.
