Winuae can seem daunting, more options than Starbucks that can take a mans sanity and leave him wondering what happened to the weekend as he formats his compact flash for the 30th time. Make a tea or pop a beer and follow MikeyGRetro in a calm, relaxing tutorial that would make Bob Ross proud. By far the best Winuae guide for beginners!

I am new to the Amiga being a rival Atari St owner many years ago and have had Steem for many years . I just discovered the Amiga emulation software and found your tutorials very helpful . Please keep making them. The Amiga is as strange to me as a kid familiar to Windows 10 going back to Dos 2.0 .

@@MikeyGRetro I don't think there are any channels but a few videos on the Steem emulator. The Atari operating system is much simpler. Just download the STEEM SSE 3.9.4 emulator and there are some useful links in the info section .

I have to start by saying what a fantastic tuturiol! I grew up with a 500 then a 600 and eventually a 1200. (Kept my fave games obviously Wings, Rocket Ranger, Chaos Engine, Soeedball 2 ,Shadow of the Beast 2 etc etc etc )Only a few months ago I had to sell the 1200 monitor etc and it was tough. Had this emulator for over a decade and never knew it could do all this. Absolutely fantastic It is now 5:30 am hahaha onto number 3 I go!!! 😂 hopefully can make screen full size and get my controller attached.... this is like Xmas .... in the voice of Speedball 2 GET READY!!!

I followed your videos and it work great with the WHDLOad side of things. Then I bought some digital downloads and things got a bit mixed up (I think Amiga FOrever and Winuae where clashing), so I did a fresh install of Winuae on C: Program File and then did a re install of things and then put all my digital download files in PC Drive and it is working great). I have made backups of my Winaue configs as well as a master backup that is stored on an external drive and I hop things stay smooth running. I am very grateful for this guide and I would have had a lot of problems setting things up withoout the guides --THANKS VERY MUCH!!!!

No one mentions the "Value Edition" Its the same as the Plus pack, but in addition you get physical 2 DVD's of Amiga videos which will work on DVD player as well as computer. Jay Miner interview is on there as well as the limitations of the Amiga hardware engineers discussed as workarounds.

Great videos - I have an Amiga again! Some updates: If you can’t save your configuration, make sure you right click the winuae.exe and ‘run as administrator’ If you can’t find your key.rom file, you can use your original kickstart.roms (provided you have the license) - the key.rom is an encryption file needed only if you’re using the Amiga Forever ROMs The file from WHDload skick.lha link is broken - a bit of Googling and you’ll find it The WHDload games are not zipped - just use the lha x command as shown earlier. If games run too fast, try setting your Amiga to an A500. Cheers!

It depends what you want to do, if you purely interested in playing games FS-UAE is the easier way. If have more time and interest in tinkering and and want to learn more about how the Amiga works then I would say WinUAE. :-) AmiKit is a pre-configured setup out of the box that not used that much.

amiga forever gives you a dozen preconfigured systems, instant net access, but there's nothing like building your own system from scratch, because it can also help you in setting your own brick and mortar system up in the future.

Is this when in Workbench? All I can suggest is trying again from scratch. Maybe there is another program that is interfering with WinUAE.

Thanks. For some reason every time I select a game in the disk drive page and click on restart instead of the game appearing I get the purple kickstart screen showing me to insert the disk. Help would be appreciated.

What the hell happened at 7:49. following along nicely then you just went " all we need to do now is press start" There was no start on the page you had and you switched immediately to another page, god knows where because mine doesnt have start. (

Hi Colin, The time stamp has a Start button right at the bottom of the window that is clearly visible. Not sure what the issue is.

I think I'm gonna return my A500 mini, do this thing here on a little USB drive (or even on a Cloud drive), and use WinUAE from there. I'd be in for a paid license at this point, but I'm not in for more hardware. Thanks for making this guide. I was wondering how WinUAE had changed over the years.

haha.... A500 mini is good self-standard to hook up HDMI display, but that's probably the only difference. Its still emulation under the hood, but with WinUAE/FS-UAE, you can emulate more systems

5:15 When i write A1200 and click save... it doesn't save anything. Nothing appears above where the content of the Configurations folder is. Any suggestion? This is critical since i need to remap joysticks and so on and don't want to set everything up every time i start WINUAE.

Does anyone know why WinUAE doesn't seem to acknowledge the existence of the A2000? It's really weird.. they have every other bizarre Amiga, but no reference to the 2000.

i'm trying to load an adf game from floppy disk in winuae but it doens't work, why is it not bootable ?

Maybe try loading a workbench disk first and then putting the game disk in after loading workbench, it could be the game has to run from Workbench. What game is it out of interest?

Alright I have to ask. What the heck is an FPU? I know it stands for Floating Point Unit, but that is all I know..what is that??

Sounds like you need to install DirectX or there is something corrupt with your Windows installation.

I’ve just realised I’m still running 1.2.0!!! If I was too update to the most recent one would I loose all of my configurations and the harddrive??!

1.2 is quite old. Make a backup of the folders and try it out. I would say to make a fresh config so you don't get any funny surprises because of it down the road.

Hey thanks for the tutorial! I got a question about the kickstart pack! Would it work if I got the value edition just for price reasons? Or do I have to get the medium edition?

The value pack doesn't give you all the kickstarts. I think it only gives 1.3 and 2.0. Cheapest way to just get all the roms is download on android the Amiga Forever Essentials. Then copy from your phone to pc

@@MikeyGRetro alright and I also have another question, I download Protracker and some games, but the file that it’s supposed to show for the Amiga is not showing. Every time I download an Amiga game I only see the file type as “file” do I need to disable something to make it work or the rar application? Nobody wants to help me fix this problem :(

Hi MikeyG thanks for your tutorials. I am new to WinUAE. I was told I can create an adf file based on an exe file with WinUAE. I would want an adf file based on an exe to put it on a usb drive so that I can use it in my gotek on my real Amiga 500. I tried to do this via the Hardware/Floppy drive section but I do not succeed. Can you help me how to do this?

Hi Jasper, so from what I understand you have an amiga program that is an exe and you are looking to put it inside an ADF? An ADF is like a virtual amiga floppy so you can make a blank ADF file and put whatever you want inside it. If you are instead talking about an EXE file that PC's use then no. Can you give me an example of the exe file and what you want to do? Then I'll try and help further.

Wow, i am definitely late to the party lol. I hope someone can help - I've gone through all the steps for the emulater but i have had no luck in playing Cadaver, it keeps coming up with an error when it asks to load a disk, presumably Levels - I hope someone can help as i would love to play this game. I managed once following your videos to get everything installed and workbench up and running, and even better work bench installed, but unfortunately it's been a one off. Hi, good to see some Canadian viewers. :-) I guess Commodore didn't add this as an option back in the day. Hopefully just choosing English will be close enough. There is Amiga OS 3.2 now so maybe they added more languages.
