This is actually america first. There just aren't many american kids taking stem courses anymore. In my masters and phd classes only less than 5% was american. High level tech jobs require at least a master's, because it requires such a deep level of specialization. At the rate technology is moving, even my masters is becoming obsolete. Of course we have to do something to encourage young americans to study more STEM courses. But by the time that happens, China will have overtaken us already, because basically every college student there is in STEM.

H1B1 is a permit to work in America for a limited time for skilled workers. Not a pathway to citizenship per se. Alot of Trumps major influences response is a big sign they are not in agreement , some of his campaigns original group are furious. He got his voters on his side by claiming he would close the borders and bring American jobs back, now Musk and Vivek want too sell the high paying tech jobs overseas. Tech laid out the majority of their workforce only a 2-3 years ago, everyone forgetting microsoft and Google layoffs? There is a ton of capable engineers out there, America is not in a shortage of workers. What Musk wants is cheap workers , this is exactly what the base did not want with the Mexican border at the time ,now it's Indian immigrants instead. And Trumps only rebuttal is its a good program and he has a ton of H1B1 on his property, so America first is not the people but the profits. This is why making businessmen head of government has long term consequences.

One that needs to be understood here is the gap. The companies legally cannot pay lower wages than market rate. Infact the US labor department heavily monitors these procedures and regulated the salaries for each location. Companies have to go through a rigorous 4-5 months process of documentation just for sponsoring VISAs for the foreign worker. This is atleast $10,000 extra per person in application fees, legal fees and HR costs in addition to what the company pays the foreign workers themselved. It actually costs more to hire a foreign national than an American. In addition, There are only 65,000 h1b work visas that are issued every year. So the hate in this comment section is uncalled for and misinformed.
