I had completely forgotten about this show but I vaguely remember seeing it on the USA Network as a kid.

Yep. It was on USA Network back in the late 80s and early 90s.

I could have gotten the answers to the Germanic languages easily considering I learned German in high school and I pretty much knew that Yiddish, English, Icelandic, Flemish, Dutch, and Danish were all tied to the German language.
