Ovens Rocky Mountain Bushcraft

Күн бұрын

Greg hops from lake to lake, drilling holes in the ice and dropping lines, but it's COLD AND WINDY, so he slides his truck out on the ice and decides to jig for trout with his windshield wiper blade!
Greg is a self-taught survivalist from Canal Flats, British Colombia, who, since he was a boy, has read nearly every book on the topic. When he is not out in the wilderness, he is a professional dry-waller. He started his first bow drill fire when he was thirteen and spent the next forty years learning bushcraft and studying plants and edibles. He has even developed some of his own survival techniques and is a skilled hunter with both a bow and a slingshot.

When I was kid me and my hoodlum buddies used to trespass into a 100 year old abandoned gravel quarry to hunt the woods around it, stealth camp and fish. The county decided to block off the only road to it and put up a bunch of fresh no trespassing signs after some drunk teenager managed to drown himself out there so we had to be stealthy. The only good spot to fish the quarry was from a shelf of bedrock that was unfortunately in plain view of the highway and I had already been run out of there once by the sheriff while fishing and would likely be cited if caught there again. So if me and a buddy or two went out there to fart around with our pellet guns, camp and maybe catch a fish we would quickly set a few set lines on the bedrock shelf then disappear into the woods to hunt squirrels and such checking the lines every so often. A trick we learned to make the lines auto jig was to zip tie a square of carboard to ends of our poles so they would bob around in the breeze. It seemed to work OK and we would catch crappies and the occasional small mouth bass but not great compared to being able to actually cast, troll and jig by hand. Might be worth trying on the ice.

Hey Greg, Iv'e not seen this video before. You are fart stinking.. I mean SMART THINKING! As my bro would say. Ha! 😂, Anyway, I think so many ice fishermen, & Women, can & will benefit from your knowledge. You have a great Nack for improvising! Ya just know how to make it work, trial and error, but you have the patience to do so. I would never trust a few tons of machinery on a frozen lake, or any other water, because of warm spots. Might have been a year, but I always enjoy the Adventures that you bring to people like myself that cannot get out there and experience the wonderful enjoyment you get from mama nature in it's up's & downs. GBU.,SM.,NZ., ✌❤🙂🤗🙏

Greg I so shocked to see the wiper jigging you did. Over 25 years ago I had a friend do this except he tied his line off to his radio antenna then to the wiper arm. The antenna kept the line from going slack when a fish hit. My friend has since passed but this instantly brought back memories of him. Loved it.
