I plan on using this with chains and cables to secure my motorcycle and bicycle. A cable can be cut with plenty of things quickly, and a chain can be cut with more effort. There are alarmed locks you can buy, but they are very finicky and will go off all the time. If you ran a wired circuit in a configuration like this with an alarm and some home made housing, you could bypass that problem and the alarm would only go off if the wire was cut or damaged and the circuit was interrupted.

This worked great! Thank you! I used 330 and 10K ohm resistors because that's what I had. Also used NTE199 NPN transistor.

Good circuit... But what ohm resistor to use if i am only using the led without the buzzer ? I just need the led to flash without buzzer sound .. so can i use 560Ω resistor instead of 680Ω ? (Plus i dont have 680Ω resistor) ... Also will the led flash - when the 240v (ac input current) door bell is switched off - meaning circuit broken ? I need the light to flash when the bell is off !

Connect a relay instead of a buzzer and you can control anything you like. In this case you connect the "+" wire straight to the relay coil pin.

Hi, I put a switch in the battery positive side but it seems to reduce the battery power resulting in a lower volume at the siren/buzzer. Would connecting to 12v improve the volume (more battery power)?

Hi, simple and clever :-) but if I reconnect cutted wire buzzer will be mutted. Do you have an idea how to prevent muting after activation ... i.e. until cut power supply? I would like to use it as a door keeper - alarm should be activated after door open and active until switch off power not by closing door. Thank you
