I bought one of these a month or two ago and it just arrived today! Looks awesome, but...definitely not something you could use in a high fire risk area! The sparking was something I didn't expect.

I'll stick with string. There's a reason its been around for so long. Wires hurt, sparks ignite, damage to stone can't always be undone. I was excited at first, but, although it's a nice try, I'll pass.

I got you, however, strings produce microplastics right in your garden, will last for a few dozen centuries. There should be an anternative…
@High_Monk3 жыл бұрын
@@adam-user The amount of microplastic produced by one of those wires is insignificant compared to the pollution produced by the machine itself.

This thing was not designed for gardens. It is to be used on larger areas, like parking lots, drive ways traffic islands and escape routes. Places where damage is not really a problem. Think industrial not domestic. From my own experience I can tell this thing lasts way longer than 30 feet of string and after two or three weeks the few scratches are no longer visible. Real damage occurs mainly when going in to fast or pushing down to hard. Skimming the brush head on the surface gives best result anyway. It is also recommended to use at least a 38 cc engine. I use a 52 cc heavy brush strimmer/cutter, the higher rpm and torque are the most useful. Any larger and the machine would be overpowered and very heavy.

I use one of those on my brush cutter but if you have fancy pavement it will mark it and fire stones in all direction like a missile. So be cautious around glass windows and doors.

For how much air that thing moves, you could almost use it as a blower. Love how it throws sparks. Reminds me when id run a nail on a grinding wheel and sparks fly.

Is it durable? How long before it needs to be replaced? I want something that can replace nylon string with similar property (can withstand stones and rocks) because I don't want to litter my property with plastic debris anymore so I'm looking for an alternative to string.... Thanks!

These will only work on a weed eater with a clutch drive. If you have a direcct drive like most weed eaters, it will be nearly impossible to start. The weight of the wire wheel is too heavy causing the pull start to not be fast enough. I just installed one on a warmed up machine and I could not turn the engine fast enough to start it.

If you do this on manufactured pavers, it will damage them, for sure. If this guy would pressure wash his patio now and zoom the video in, those pavers are scuffed pretty bad. Don’t use this thing on a patio
