I’ve always been a huge fan of Wire , and in my opinion one of the greatest bands

Cool interview with Wire just before recording 154. Very interesting to get some insight into their minds and their approach to writing, recording and their live shows. Thank you for sharing this

A brilliant band in their prime. That medley of "Mercy," "40 Versions" and "Former Airline" in the middle of the *Rockpalast* performance is amazing.

Amazed that this very rare interview has attracted so few comments. Many thanks for posting this.

Love this interview, I was at the Manchester gig, march 1978 ( at rafters ). one of the best gigs that I have attended . I was also at the gig ( gorilla club ). in Manchester just before the pandemic. The band asked who was in attendance at the gig in 78 , I proudly raised my hand . I have written a feature film script which is partly inspired by the 154 album.

I'm incredibly late to the party with this band, they've only really clicked with me recently. To say this was 79, 2 years after UK punk hit the headlines with the Sex Pistols and all the attendant media circus and shock tactics, Wire come across as an anomaly. Intelligent, thoughtful and far more interesting than the stereotyped image of punk, (whatever that term means) Great interview.

I'm curious to know how they got together if they didn't really know each other or like each other. Was the whole thing contrived in a way similar to the Monkees? How do a bunch of unknowns go straight to a major label like "Harvest"? , EMI, Pink Floyd's label It all looks suspiciously like an experiment to get a bunch of extremely intelligent guys together (possibly public school boys) and see what can be done with it. I don't think anyone achieves suucess without being connected to the control system in some way. All your heroes are given to you by the established order.

That would be crazy! But not impossible haha. If it’s an industry plant it’s one of the best ever done haha

They said they were going to release two albums in one year? What ever happened to that?
