Just as relevant now as then, if not more so! From the lost archives of avantgarde artist, industrial music pioneer, mind explorer and TOPY-founder Genesis P-Orridge, who expresses concerns @ 30 years ago about state oppression on freedoms of individual thought and action, particularly through art.
The english entrepreneur and (Temple Ov Psychic Youth) network-builder interviewed on his 1976 court case in which, as an artist, he was threatened to become a "non-representative person" and set under arrest by the UK-government.
This rarely edited 1986 version is part of the lost archives of Genesis P. Orridge who's message from then is even more actual in times of the msm propaganda and the internet. Probably no part of this raw footage has ever been screened on the UK's national television.

His intelligence , organized belief and thought and how easily he makes you understand how unhealthy it is to live a conformist lie is so authentic you stare in awe . Like William Blake his work and words are important . This band noone knows or at least very few has worked with everyone Bridget Riley the op-artist ,Burroughs ,Gysin,Waters and so many others tells one his work is vital . Artists are as he says here for the spirit to question and validate . Artists are supposed to deprogram and the conflict between real content ,real living and the status quo that wants to control our psyche . His bravery to lead Throbbing Gristle and Psychic T.V. is astonishing . Love is his central notion which infers self-respect and truth and respect for living and helps understand his decision in life as well as aesthetics to cut-up even extending to the physiological. I knew about T.G. in the early 80's living in LosAngeles but thought it was an act for a punk/industrial band . Now I see everything came from his need to live authentically and be himself . Wow ! Peter and Cosi are lucky to have known him !

This was fifty years ago... look what has happened to freedoms now.. Gen was absolutely right.. if more artists had fought for freedom of artistic license we may not be in such a terrible state now.. my boyfriend is a well known contemporary artist who has always kept his integrity and faced this kind of establishment censorship when the police raided the gallery where he had a show about to open... because he had a piece which was called Bad Ladder .. it was a step ladder with a bomb on it .. this bomb was like a cartoon bomb.. quite clearly not real.. but they decided to shut down that part of London and raiding the gallery with armed police.. he had to agree to NEVER exhibit that piece publicly again! If that’s not censorship I don’t know what is... thankfully he has never shied away from making dark art with a powerful narrative to it .. commenting on life.. which is what artists are meant to do .. but these days they are just urban artists who make one successful piece then just change the colours or backgrounds etc and do massive print runs! I’m showing my age but art en masse these days says nothing.. it’s like Athena posters we had in the 80s... music says nothing.. the arts have been hijacked and made into corporations run by fools who have no idea about music and just care about money and profit! McDonald’s music for a fast food generation! Artists have so much to fight against and that’s fantastic.. that’s when the cultural wasteland starts to bloom .. out of despair great art is made!! I wish there were more people like Gen .. who put their head above the precipice and says fuck your stupid rules.. they don’t mean shit to me! And I’m with him all the way!

Some wise words. What I find interesting and also a bit funny, is that he mentions the "moral panic" of 10 years of conservative rule. Nowadays we have had 20 years of "progressive" rule in a lot of European countries, with the exact same "moral panic". Hah! It also has gotten exponentially worse since the giant entity of a concept called "social media", that has gotten so powerful that it has become the moral judge all the way to political decision making and directions of political parties. People don't even believe what they see with their own eyes anymore, because the current narrative on the social media platforms tells them the opposite is the truth. I really wonder what it will develop into in coming years, will I be imprisoned for my thoughts inside my head?

@@user-sc6ie7yq4e I see, can't speak for America, more than that I know it's quite different to Europe (where I live). Not saying that you don't know, but a lot of people from America or other places outside of Europe have no clue how big of a change we have had since the 90s. When people had enough back in ~2010, there were already people saying they heard people marching outside their homes. I think they simple don't understand that the direction they wanted changed it for the worse for a lot of people. People feeling "rootless" is a recipe for disaster. I would say that fascist elements are unavoidable at this point. When it goes too far in one direction it will eventually turn the opposite direction. It will be a major problem in some countries in the future, yes. Just thinking out loud here and I have no clue how it can be solved.

It's honestly quite disheartening to see this in 2023 -- because for a time, our artistic freedom of speech online was fairly permissive for 'The Western world'. *I find the audacity of modern censorship equally as offensive as some find my art.* _(I make dark religious/esoteric art & it's increasingly common for websites [e.g. Pinterest, Google etc.] to remove work like mine; claiming we're violating their community guidelines in one form or another)._ Now all it takes is a single person online to declare something they find objectionable ... "pornography" ... and all because of something ridiculous (like showing The Virgin Mary's nipples whilst breastfeeding a religious newborn) -- OR -- _art can be deemed "harmful content that glorifies self-harm" when it's depicting a crown of thorns dripping blood on anyone but a white-washed secular image of Jesus Christ._

I'm sorry for being rude, but I thought you were a conservative and my patience with this kind of people is extremely limited since I come from a country where there are roughly 1000 (this number is optimistic in my view) left-leaning people in a population of 20mil (just recently a gypsy taxi driver told me how much he admired hitler for "not being stupid about the jews" - quite the irony since he "wasn't stupid" about the gypsies either). If Genesis was a pedophile they should be outed as such, no doubt in my mind about it, since I myself was a victim of abuse (a context in which I found TG cathartic). Again, sorry for insulting you.
