This is so helpful, thank you! Flush cutters might be worth getting at the start if a person plans to try soldering wire end-to-end (like for a ring or dangle/earring hoop element) b/c the surfaces have to be perfectly flat.

I love this video because it proves the point that better pliers are very much worth it in regards to Xyron vs Michael's for most applications. I remember years ago first getting in to chainmaille. I bought a starter kit and they were serrated. I returned them and went to Xyron and another step up brand. It was worth it.

Oxana, to get the "Spring" back in your pliers, just pull down on the spring metal piece sometimes there are 2 (one on each side of your pliers), normally one has a tongue in the middle, whereas the other side has a forked tongue where the 2 meet in the middle to give you that Spring feeling, keeping your pliers in the open mode. Hope this helped you as much as your videos have helped me! TTFN

Watching thos video, you do have pliers that will flat cut your wire instead of filing your wire. The little cutters you shown are flush cut, if you spin them and recut the flared side, you can make straight. I have done this many times for making jump rings until I got a saw. Thanks for the video. Very informative.👍💯

Thank you for your Clauss Flush Cutter recommendation. Even with the quality tools I will be buying I couldn't use them with anything thicker than 16 gauge wires and I bet that's only the softest of wires.

Love, your videos and love your work.. you make it look so easy.. so, thank you! I've had the same problem with a pair of my pliers. I slid the rubber part down a little, put a bit of super glue on the metal, slid the rubber back up and, voila.. it's fixed.. hope that works for you!! that is annoying..

Hi Oxana. Thank you for sharing your techniques with us. I have a tip for you too! Gaffers tape will work really well on the clamp/ clip that you showed in this video that has red plastic tips and tape over the distressed areas. its a fabric based tape that is incredibly durable and flexible. Its mostly used on production sets (movies, tv, commercials). It doesn't leave a sticky residue and is really easy to work with.. Fluorescent neon gaffer tape - 5 pack. Cloth matt finish is reactive under UV blacklight. Great for glow parties and art projects. Each roll is 18 feet by .5 inches. $15.99 0n amazon ^^^^ and that amount of tape will last a good long time (sorry i couldn't copy and paste the link for some reason) hope you give it a try

Super glue on the handle to keep it from coming off. Re-bend the spring with your other pliers to get it that particular set of pliers opening again. With the wire-cutters not "being sharp" it is actually because of leverage. A set of pliers with long teeth and handles produce more lbs/sq. in.

If you have trouble with handles sliding off. Get a can of plastic dip from hardware store. I have fairly large hands so I dip brand new tools several times to make handles a bit more manageable for my hands, will repair slipping handles as well.🙂🙂👍

Just a few added tips, pliers should be smooth not rigid edges that mar the wire. Xuron have flush cutters that make a straight cut micro shear 170. Bur cup file rounds and smooths off ends nicely too 😊

good to know, yes, smooth jewelry pliers, not the hardware pliers with the ridges on them.

The ironic thing is, trying to get the Xuron brand in Australia is by no means a cheap tool option. I'm looking at $40 on most sites, or $25 shipping from Amazon. :/

Thank you, that was really helpful. I bought a number of these tools thinking you needed them for jewellery making, should have checked properly right. Anyway, now I have them all, what type of wire should I start with please?

I like to use copper wire. I get raw copper from Rio Grande, it is raw though, so will tarnish. Or you can get coated copper, it comes in all different colors, but if you are not careful you can scratch the coating off. I typically use round dead soft copper wire, in gauges 28 and 20 for a lot of my pendants.
