Hey there!! Loved your video 😁👍 I teach beginner jewellery making as well and wanted to pass on a tip: standard ear wires and posts are made with 20Ga (0.8mm) wire. 18Ga (1mm) tends to be too big unless someone is used to wearing piercing studs or the hole is already slightly stretched. Using thinner wire can contribute to a tearing of the hole especially when there is excess weight on the earring or accidentally gets grabbed (think your favorite shirt, scarf or tiny human!) Hope this helps! Keep up the great work!!

@@kerriefearby9542 I do it as a business. If it's a hobby then & you using aluminium then you can follow her suggestion. So I guess its important to note that I dont use aluminum which is an extremely pliable metal & what the author of the vid uses. Therefore the marking would show up VERY easily. For metal work I mainly use cooper wire & sheet metal. Occasionally I use brass for variety. I took jewelry making classes for 8 yrs. I do have one "regular" small pliers that I rarely use but always use jewelry tools. I got my first tools from Contenti which was the basic 4 piece. I since purchased 2 tools each from Beadsmith & Xuron which are both great companies. (I picked them up a Bead/trade shows) I plan to purchase my next set from Lindstrom. I started with cheap hammers from Michaels. My instructor told me invest in Fretz so I have 2 Fretz & 1 Maker hammers & brass 1 lbs & 2 lbs hammers that I got from the JA & MJSA show from the vendor Rio Grande. Got stamp supplies from ImpressArt. Micro tools & Rio Grande are great places to view & do your research but purchase on sale. My disk cutter & dapper I got on sale at Amazon. I started soldering & looking forward to learning more but I started with stringing & beadweaving. If you want to establish selling/business then google the names I mentioned. Hope this helps.

When you've gotten a little budget saved up for tools, the difference between hardware store pliers and cutters vs pro jewelry tools is like the difference between an economy car and a Mercedes. It's amazing how much better they work and how much better they feel like an extension of your hand. Your idea of plastic coating the ends is a great one and if you go with pro tools, you'll see how little they mark metals. If someone ventures into sterling wire (which feels SO good to work with and wear), a tumbler is an awesome tool to smooth any sharp edges your tools might have made. 1 hour in a tumbler with water just about the jewelers shot level and one drop of Dawn with yield shiny and smooth jewelry, which can then be antiqued or kept shiny. Thanks for making this video!

I agree with you about using told made for jewelers. I've only bought a couple so far, but so much better! When first starting I even filed off the teeth of the pliers. Tried taping the ends as some people suggested. Not a good idea. I want to try this dip it stuff, first on my old Lowe's pliers, then I'll see. Another thing the jewelers pliers are ergonomic, so my hands don't get as fatigued. You can buy them online for less than the craft store and they are delivered to your door. Also for cutting chain, I did buy a large pair of Craftsman brand diagonal cutters at Lowes. They cut chain and thick or hard wire effortlessly.

Luv your tips, coating pliers in Plasti-Dip👍 and your humor!😂 I'm new to jewelry making and just learned 2 sets of pliers are needed-1 to shape the wire and 1 to hold the other end during manipulation. Hardware store NEEDLE-NOSE pliers will work fine but they have serrated edges and leave marks. FLAT-JAWED CHAIN-NOSE pliers have flat surfaces designed for gripping wire/ jewelry wire WITHOUT LEAVING MARKS OR RIDGES. Chain-Nose pliers also have shorter jaws than Needle-nose pliers making them easier to work with. Chain-Nose pliers can also be used for opening and closing jump rings, as they taper towards the tip and can be easily manipulated into small spaces. FLAT-NOSE pliers have non-tapered tips and a wide surface area making it easier to grip jewelry wire. So, 1 pair of Chain-Nose and 1 pair of Flat-Nose pliers would work very well or 2 sets of Flat-Nose pliers. Happy Jewelry making : )

There's a little tool called a wire rounder and it perfectly fies the end of your wire so when you make earring posts or hooks, they're gentle on the ear.

Hey Moon Child! Don't you just love this video! Miss Martian has a new fan in me! My late spouse was a many skills type guy. He used the plasti dip technique but that wasn't the name of it. He did a neon colored product like hunter's safety vest. Maybe he hunted dinner with a screwdriver! lol I thought he did that so it was easier to find them. He wasn't very organized so with that color, he could spot his tools in the pile on the floor! Again lol Thank you Missy Martian! Moon child, were you born in July? My mother, daughter and grandson are all Moon Children! Best month ever!!! Barbi jo Stay safe to Miss Martian and to Mr. Moon and your families and furry family if you have some members that fit. Not unshaven husbands, wives or children! Hugs and pets, Bj

Well after one video I'm completely certain you're my new favorite. I don't think I've ever sat through an we toes KZbin video longer than 5-10 minutes without fast forwarding. I not only watched this in its entirety, I shared it with my sisters who make fun of me for not watching anything on KZbin 😂 thank you for this! I think we're all guilty of BUY ALL THE THINGS syndrome and you are literally saving our lives. And with comic relief! I want to be coffee and margarita best friends with you!

This was the best jewelry video I've ever seen! & I've been into making jewelry for 10 years. Love your energy, how you own your space, truly authentic in delivery & comedic moments. I started putting felt with a sticky side on my pliers but it's bulky so I'm defiantly getting the goo. Thanks for all the tips, the inspiration, and the dopamine hit! 😊

Your wire wrapping skills are dope. I'm just beginning but I'm confident I'll be as nice as you one day : )... Also, I was hoping for some tips to protect the tips of my fingers. I feel like I'm rubbing off my fingerprints haha. Great video!

Just google “silicone finger sleeves”. I used them in the past when I used to yarn bomb and use a battery powered glue gun which were so much hotter than the average glue gun, SO HOT that I kinda burned my fingerprints off. But I got some finger sleeves and I’ve used them for many things. I’m sure they’ll be great for wire wrapping!

The Plasti Dip was the best tip! (I want to use it on my thumbs!!) I'm just starting out so I've got to build up some callus'! I'll be getting some of those silicon finger sleeves!
