Your tips are great. I use a small rubber coated clamp for 4 wires or more. That clamp is hard to get open with 2 hands but after 2 weeks of crafting I can open it with one hand. My strength LOL has improved. This was my 1st video I watched on wire patterns and it really helped me! Thank you for all you do!

Thanks but I have a question about wire placement. If I am weaving half round wire, should I weave on the flat side or round side. Does it even matter? Also what wire shape is easiest for the base wire, e.g. square, round, half round? Also what is an estimate ratio of the wire for wrapping per base wire? This would help when I am ordering a certain amount of wire. For example if I have 10cm of base wire, should I have atleast 3 times for the wrapping (smaller) wire? Finally, what is better for a base wire when weaving, hard or soft? Sorry for all of the questions, but need help as a newbie. Thank you in advance for your responses.
@ellieshandcrafted Жыл бұрын
Hi there! Sorry for the late reply. 😅 If you’re wrapping with half round, you’ll want to make sure that the flat side is against the square wire so that it doesn’t slip and for it to sit well. As far as what wires are best for base wires, it really depends on what you’re wanting to do. Weaving, I prefer round wire while wrapping I really enjoy using square wire and half round. As far as an estimate for weaving wire needed, I don’t actually know, I just guess… 😅 But I usually make sure I have 3-5 feet of weaving wire for smaller projects. And for hardness, I like working with dead-soft for most projects. Hope that helps and feel free to drop questions anytime! I’m happy to answer what I can. 🥰

Thank you Ellie! Ive been weaving 5 years and ive never seen anyone roll the wire with the black rubber base of the bench. However, I have seen a wire sanwiched in between 2 bench blocks and the top one is sort of slammed down on the wire to work harden it.
@ellieshandcrafted Жыл бұрын
It was something that I learned from another wire artist.. I can't remember who now.. It's not my usual way to straighten wire, but it works well if you don't have nylon jaw pliers. I hadn't heard of the bench block work-hardening trick. I'll have to try it!

Stupid question but I was at the dollar store and they had this $2 metal rolling pin and I just couldn't resist. Can you just roll up the wire. Yes I'm aware I can try this myself
@ellieshandcrafted7 ай бұрын
Hmm... I don't know the answer to that. I'd imagine that the wire would curve if you used a rolling pin. ?? But you'd have to try it to know for sure. ;)

@@ellieshandcrafted I tried it, and it's not heavy enough to make it look like it does when you hammer it. Newton's second law of motion states that F = ma, or net force is equal to mass times acceleration. A larger net force acting on an object causes a larger acceleration, and objects........science, science, science stuff🤣 I sucked at science🤣🤣🤣🤣 Big hammer , and practice works best. I just get frustrated cuz sometimes when you hit the wire it kind of squishes off and it's not even. When I started making things after my divorce I couldn't let myself be free and go with it. So after a few weeks I made myself a promise. I no longer needed to be perfect, I could be the person who LOVES creating things, and no one is going criticize you, and bring you down you have to believe this. So evertime get that itch that something isn't perfect. That people will laugh at me, I remember the promise I made. Perfection is not worth stopping what you love. Sorry I needed to send that out into the universe.

I've been weaving for 2 years and use any links pliers, my fingers, or a rag. But what gets me,is they never are as straight as what you see in tutorials. However, I notice the trainer rarely ever shows the end of the wires she's weaving.
@ellieshandcrafted Жыл бұрын
I don't think my wires are ever perfectly straight. I do my best to straighten them first and then straighten as I go, depending on the length of wire I'm using. But I know what you mean! 😉
