Motor cuts out at 355. Give it full throttle on an incline you’ll reach it pretty quickly regardless of ambient.

They will jump back in forth. But if you go down in gear it’s not as bad. I have that on my Goat V3 I just drop down in gear and it smooths out.

I think the controller will overheat befoge the motor.

i've had mine for 3 weeks and 400 miles, can't wait to commute on it daily. swapped out the stock Kenda's for origin8 supercells, which i highly HIGHLY recommend although they do need a hundred miles or so of break in. fastest recorded top speed on the gps was 43.5 so far.

Nice video, Zonie. I am a couple of years older than you, but I still appreciate performance, too. I have drilled ventilation holes in direct drive hub motors to keep them cooled at high outputs of 7-8kw. None of my bikes with geared hubs can flow much over 2kw, so they haven't needed it. Your wired seems to be handling the hot 98 ambient well. But if heat becomes an issue, then you could consider ventilating the hub. I'm really impressed that the output from the controller didn't seem to drop from the heat. I would have thought that it would have to reduce power to protect itself in there. And you are right that it is fine to buy a Wired and not unlock the extra performance. You would get extreme range and a plush dual-suspension ride. And then you could go home and eat just one Lays potato chip.

Thank you for the comment and suggestion! Have you had any issues with your controllers overheating? I was actually thinking of drilling some ventilation holes in the crank case where the controller is housed. I think that would help with heat dissipation, but I’m not sure if it’s needed. I would prefer not to mess with the aesthetics of the bike if I can avoid it.

@EnergizedZonie Yes, I have had issues with controller heat on bikes with the controller mounted in the bottom bracket. I was really surprised that your Cruiser was still able to draw high peak wattage on a hot day with an enclosed controller. I'm a retired electronics tech and used to do a lot of amateur road racing on regular bikes. I have gradually become the ebike guy to friends and neighbors in my Midwestern town. I have seen controller peak output drop by 40% on a hot day as it became overheated in the bottom bracket housing. I have dealt with the problem in a couple of different ways. If the person is satisfied with the bikes performance before it overheats, then I ventilate the side covers. I drill a 10mm hole in the right side cover in front of the chainring, and another 10mm hole at the rear of the left side cover. I have 10mm silicon rubber plugs from Amazon that can seal the holes if riding in sloppy weather. That has solved the overheat of the stock controllers. But I have also fixed a few of them by installing a larger controller on the back of the seat tube. That way, they get a major performance boost. Your Cruiser has a nice controller. I would recommend taking it out for a hard ride and then removing the left side cover and seeing how hot it is. You don't have to take the crankarm off since the cover will rotate out of the way. If the controller is too hot to touch, then you may want to add the vent holes for longevity.

If you stay on level 1 or 2, you should not pass ~180F. The battery life is amazing at those levels too.

You are right. If I could tone it down, no worries. My need for speed causes me to push some boundaries from time to time.

Not sure if this could cause your throttle issue but I’ve had to loosen up my grip on a couple bikes with that same throttle and make sure the throttle doesn’t bind at all. Beyond that I’d double check every connection is fully seated.

I'm looking at the E-Cells 16" Step Star with 24" tires for my wife. That smaller frame would work great for shorter riders.

Have had my Cruiser for three weeks. It constantly overheats and turns off after climbing a 20% grade in PAS 3 for a out 1/2 mile. Tech is sending me a motor core and controller.😢

Sorry to hear that it overheated. Hopefully, the new motor core and controller will fix that issue. It’s good to know Wired is providing replacement components.

I full unlocked the bike in the settings. I have turned down my power assist percentages twice from the factory settings. Current settings: PAS 1) 15%, PAS 2) 30%, PAS 3) 45%, PAS 4) 70%, PAS 5) 90%. I set my tire pressure to 19.5 PSI.

You could never achieve those speeds on an e cell. 1000 more watts with the Wired and you can instantly feel the difference.
@FreakyT333

You are correct, I can only hit 42 in pas 5 and 39 on throttle with my 5 Star, this new version of the Wired is definitely faster. I will say though, soon as I get over 35-37 I usually back off, gets pretty windy and sketchy.
@mikewills5513

Really a 1000 more watts they have a 45 amp controller that is different otherwise they are the same. Wired is a little faster now , but e cells is coming out with 60 amp controller that will probably make it a little faster .
@EnergizedZonie
@EnergizedZonie 21 күн бұрын
Wow! A 60A controller would be awesome. I love to see Wired and e-cells compete by consistently upping their game!

Don’t forget the e cells torque sensor or Gates Drive, neither worked and shows that Cleveland is a fraud. A career in mobile home sales followed by 12 years in prison has prepared Cleveland to be a con man not a bike genius. He found Jesus in prison, perhaps he also taught him about e bikes, or he learned his craft in the prison work shop. Wired controller pulls over 3300 watts so it’s peaking close to 60 amps. Step star with two batteries is $2295 + $500 for dual batteries, now throw in $400 for new controller and you’re at $3200. The e cells contoller is apparently based on the flux capacitor, which we all know is the secret to time travel. Can’t wait to see all the problems likely to come from their new untested contoller, if no one else in the market is using it, there is probably a good reason why, e cells is still holding the money of people who bought in April and has used that money to finance other bikes and their insanely overpriced AWD. Meanwhile people are approaching over 100 days of waiting since giving the ex con their money. E cells says they have stock, but they don’t. Bait and switch and they try and upsell you to their ridiculously priced AWD bikes. F rating from BBB for good reason.

I’m considering both bikes. Bigger controller, but more $. There’s a limit to how much I’m willing to spend. I hear or read more often overheating issues with Wired. Like what I see in both these bikes. I tried the ECells over the weekend at an Expo(granted could only go up to 20 m.p.h.) but found it a blast.
