The sheer discipline it takes to keep to such a diet to ensure that their body is healthy is insane. The amount of effort they put in really makes you realize that they truly are athletes, just not in the sense we're used to.
@lobi7133
@lobi7133 2 ай бұрын
I dare to say 80% of the weight gained never gets absorbed, so I would guess it just passes right through the body. Even if he didn't eat anything for 5 days, that would be about 14k calories burned (at most), which is about 2kg/4.5lbs of fat. It is impossible to actually lose 20lbs in a week, unless the person is extremely obese or gets a limb amputated.

A lot of that is water weight. When you eat a lot of food (and especially a lot of salt) you're body will store a lot of water. Anyone who overeats on a random day can see it if they weight themselves consistently. Though the sheer scale of it in Joey's case is pretty impressive.
@TheMrCC21
@TheMrCC21 2 ай бұрын
@@lobi7133 Even if you're obese, dropping 20 pounds in a week is not safe. Mayo Clinic, CDC, WebMD, and other notable / respected sources and medical establishments say 1-2 pounds a weeks is what you should aim for. But you can lose more. Again, 20 pounds in a week is not safe.

Joey's not my favorite competitive eater, but man is an undisputed beast, final boss of eating and has been at the top a LONG time. I remember when Kobayashi first crushed Nathans and introduced the dunking technique sometime in the early 2000s. Joey came along shortly thereafter and has been dominating since. Huge respect, competitive eating seems like a real tough gig.

He kinda did answer that. He said "without getting graphic, I'm absorbing thousands and thousands of calories during contests. There's no way to absorb all those calories, things are running through me." He almost certainly has mass amounts of diarrhea after a contest because like he said, it simply can't all get absorbed. Also, I STRONGLY doubt he doesn't throw up afterwards. Probably just doesn't want to encourage anyone with an ED.

What people need to realize is that competitive eating is like any other sport. First of all these guys are just naturally better at eating than most people, just like how professional athletes are naturally better at their respective sport than most people. Second they train all year long and find the most efficient way they can to eat whatever it is they eat. Third they optimize their routines, professional athletes find ways to recover after they compete.
