I was just a boy when the first Star Wars came out. I had always been a sci-fi nut (Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, etc) but when this hit me, it hit hard. I can still remember leaving the theater and starring out the window of my dad's Country Squire station wagon (I always sat in the little fold out seat in the back) and my little mind trying to process what I had just seen. For that Christmas my parents got me a Star Wars book that was like an encyclopedia. It had all the drawings and cutaways and pictures and it had all the vehicles including the Death Star with all the races and maps of the Star Wars universe. It was the best present I had ever got. I would have flipped my lid at this mockup. Big time!

I follow a few SW fans in social media and some of them even transform their houses into something that would fit in the SW universe. Some of them collect expensive figures in bulk so that they could army-build. So you could not really blame them if they are the most vocal out of all the fandoms out there.
