We’ve only had the cameras up and running for a short time. kzbin.infoUgkxOXxsTZ3ptV_Pk0fFl8bNZvVqeoqBQFwe So far we love them! I got the outdoor mounting kit for them and they were easy to install. Once you download the app, it walks you through the very easy set up. The clarity, and range is awesome. I am thinking seriously about adding another camera or two to my 3 camera system. The price is lower than a lot of comparable systems.

EUFY doesn't get as much credit as they should. I don't have their cameras (yet), but I have been using their bulbs, plugs, and switches and have found they are very reliable. More so than TP-Link and WEMO, which people are always praising. Great review and very informative. Might be the system I look into someday.

Just installed my EUFY cameras, had a $300 discount in Australia over the last couple weeks so I got the one with the 4 cameras. I absolutely LOVE them. Great sound can even hear the birds chirping at home from my work, night vision, wireless, no cables, no nonsense installation, siren, hold and talk to mailman, face recognition so you can save photos of family and friends, 365 days charge, easy to install inside and outside. I would definitely recommend them❤️

I watched this video when it first came out and I made a mental note to watch it again when the time came to replace my current security cameras. This video is a huge help. So many products out there that are subpar. I'm finally jumping boat from my Nest cam setup that I bought in January of 2015, which was DropCam at the time. I'm on a tight budget and that's why it took me so long to make this change. I didn't renew my Nest subscription service, a few months ago, for the 4 cameras that I use because of the cost. The Nest subscription was costing me $140 annually which included 5 day loop recording for the 4 cameras. It was reassuring knowing that if there was a break-in, the thieves wouldn't be able to destroy the video footage. But, I use the cameras to mainly watch over my dog, periodically, while away from home, like while I'm at work. My dog doesn't have separation anxiety, I DO! Haha ... so I just ordered my Eufy 2-camera setup from Amazon. There's currently a $40-off coupon being offered. (Listed at $298.99 before using the $40-off coupon that's being offered). That's with the base station and 2 EufyCam cameras. I currently live in a studio apartment, so the 2 cameras will work fine to watch my dog. Thank you for this awesome review, Matt! And again, It's a HUGH help! All the best to you, Sir!

Thanks for watching! Arlo has been a really good system for me, but I'd much rather have my recordings stored locally without a subscription of any kind involved. And if Eufy can deliver on IFTTT, HomeKit, geofencing, etc. it's going to be a no hesitation recommendation.

Undecided with Matt Ferrell does it have or will it have it soon? IFTTT & HomeKit? Edit: it's very troubling when companies promise then don't keep it, like the tplink smart plug and told the public they won't make it to support for HomeKit after promising for so long.

I bought a wired security system but never installed it because of all the work of drilling and running the wires to install it. This EufyCam E system looks like a much better solution. Also going to switch out my Ring doorbells for Eufy doorbells. Tired of paying the yearly fee. My yearly fee just ran out for them and I didn't renew. Great time to switch when spring time comes with the warmer weather.

Great video, Thx. I wish I knew about Eufy before I put in my Arlo Pro 2 system. Now I can only hope they develop a subscription free 4K version as well. Below are the things I noted from their website that exceed my system's capabilities: 1. Customizable activity zones. This is only available on Arlo when plugged in. 2. Wired doorbell AND 2K. Arlo version is battery operated. 3. Battery life. The Arlo lasts about a month in high traffic areas. I have solar panels connected to each camera, but some cameras still die in January/February. Lithium ion batteries don't charge as well below 50 degrees and won't charge at all in freezing temps. For those looking at Arlo's 2k and 4k systems, a paid subscription is now required to do anything.

For me it was Blink XT2 - you either go with...(Convenience) Battery/Wireless/Record only when motion is detected. OR.. (Continuous Recording) and time of motion is highlighted. Picked up a Blink XT2 (2 camera) set for $99 on Prime Day...w/Mesh WiFi works great, no subscription (like EufyCam E). A Mesh WiFi network and Sync Module placement made all the difference. In the future will probably go with a continuous recording solution Hikvision/Dahua/Synology or Blue Iris/PC but in the meantime, the Blink XT2 seems to be working just fine for the last 3-4 months. It remains to be seen how the EufyCam E or Blink XT2 (or any battery camera) will do when the Northern New England (VT/NH, ME) temps drop significantly below -4F.
@UndecidedMF
@UndecidedMF 5 жыл бұрын
I’ve heard from a lot of folks that like the Blink XT2. Great, cheap option. I think both the Blink and Eufy will do fine over the winter. I’ve had cameras outside in the past, as well as my battery powered Ring doorbell. There was a slight hit to battery life, but they did pretty well. I should probably do an update video in 6 months or so with an update.

I have an Arlo pro2 6 camera system and have had it for a little less than a year. Most of the features i'm happy with. One of the cameras that had no protection from the rain stopped working. When I put a battery in it from another charged camera it works until it dies. I looked at the charging port and noticed it was corroded inside. I contacted Arlo support and after waiting about 20 minutes I was connected to someone in India who kept putting me on hold asking someone else how to handle my problem. The issue is still unresolved even though I know what the problem is. I think these companies outsource just to get customers away from contacting them about problems.

My checklist is pretty much same as yours, but with a change to number 5. I would want something with local AND cloud storage. Reason being local storage for quick access when required, but cloud storage as a backup in case you are dealing with a smart criminal. Criminals are getting smarter these days, if they see you have one of these system when they are inside stealing your things they'll just look for the base station as well and take it, now you have no footage. With the cloud storage as a backup, if and when you are dealing with a smart criminal you at least still have footage.
@JGSongsYT

my exact concern. Even if I connect it to my Synology NAS, they could swipe that too. In fact, they're more likely to take that than a Homebase 2 which is arguably useless without the Eufy devices anyway. I'm thinking the only way round this is to somehow conceal the Homebase 2 bearing in mind that it still needs connectivity with the cameras (and doorbell), but, as you say, any burglar with half a braincell is going to find it.

Great video. Thanks. Great product too by the looks of it. One thing I have come to realise over the years when purchasing products based partly on US reviews involving WiFi or Bluetooth is house differences. I realise that many homes in America are wood based or have a lot of wood in them. This obviously allows for better throughput of signal than our much more brick based homes here in England. I get some funny responses when I ask reviewers what their walls are made off. Lol. It makes a big difference though and is always overlooked. Many thanks.

I have the doorbell camera (where you need to have pre-wire's), and so far, so good. The installation was a breeze, their instructions were easy to understand, and the app is great. Image quality could be better, but the doorbell does what it's supposed to. In other words, prior to my doorbell camera, I didn't have anything. So I'm very happy. Peace of mind my friends. I'm sure Eufy will manufacture a doorbell camera with better image quality.

I’m a Wyze user, and more recently added their light bulbs and motion sensors to my home setup. My job requires me to move every few years so Wyze works well as a “pickup and go” solution. They’ve a 7 day rotation cloud storage but also local storage with an SD card. I’m expecting someone to tell me the flaw of this system and I’m happy to listen.
@UndecidedMF
@UndecidedMF 5 жыл бұрын
I'm actually planning on testing that system out. With cameras starting at $25 ... it's hard to ignore. One "flaw" (if you want to call it that) is that the SD card is in the camera itself. Steal the camera, steal the footage. With Eufy that SD card is tucked away, so less likely to be a target. I have friends that are using Wyze and love them ... can't wait to check them out myself.

Now I’m 5 cameras deep and looking for a few more. Not a fan of the paid subscription, but it works well. As a matter of fact, it seemed to not work so well until I bought the subscription. I am one of the rare people that actually have all of my Arlo cams plugged into power 24/7. With them always being connected to power I am able to record 24/7, but more importantly I am able to surveil my business via the Arlo app on a gen 4 Apple TV with all of the cameras actually streaming live. Do you know if the Eufy gives you a constant live stream if connected to power 24/7? Also are you able to use the RTSP IP address on standard IP camera software like IP Cam Pro to watch the streams?

Thanks for the review! Looking into it found out that the parent company 'Anker Innovations' is entirely Chinees. The concern here is data security, knowing all the facts about China's country policy on data and technologies. I know it's important for you and you mentioned that data stored locally. So the question is if the system is entirely looped in? What is your opinion about it, thanks!

The system is not entirely looped. The EufyCam ecosystem would still want you to login to your Eufy Account. A logon function that is entirely hosted in the cloud. You cannot, to my knowledge, extract camera recordings or view what's going on with EufyCam if a house burglar decides to sever your internet connection. With regards to it being made in China. Lots of things are made in China. The question then becomes; what is the concern? Are you afraid the Chinese will gain something from your camera views/recordings? If so, how will they use that information? What do you have that they need and would they waste valuable time and resources trying to gain that information?

@@gianthairypanda It's not about the country of manufacture, rather the Chinese Privacy laws. China can access 100% of every Chinese company's data. That is why Huawei is getting banned from 5G infrastructure. Yes, with US companies the same occurs, and it is just as unacceptable. But I would much rather compromise towards the US at this time.

@@catalindeluxus8545 spying on everyone with household equipment takes a lot of resources. i.e. time and money. Governments won't target more than 99% of the population because we are just ordinary people. Common sense would dictate that you should just review what your cameras see and whether you think it will ever expose you to any government or corporation so that they might target you. My cams are pointing to front door, back door, front and backyards, etc so I doubt the Chinese government is going to come knocking on my door threatening to arrest me any time soon for doing the gardening!

@@gianthairypanda The security concerns are little to do with targeted monitoring of individuals that you're talking about, this hand-waving "i have nothing to hide personally, why would they waste their time monitoring me" misses the point that security-conscious individuals are concerned about - it's far more a concern of systemic monitoring of all people in the camera's view. This spying does not require a lot of resources, in fact it requires very little. Here's a simple flow to illustrate: -> Eufycam is permanently monitoring the areas you've set up your cameras in -> A person is detected on camera, Eufycam performs facial recognition locally on the home base unit -> Recognized faces are noted in the log (which camera it was at, and when they occur), no alert is sent for known faces you've tagged in the service -> Unrecognized faces are sent up to the cloud for the Eufycam noticiation system to inform you of an unknown face with an alert What's to be concerned about there, right? OK, same process, only this time with the security concerns highlighted. To be clear, there is NOTHING STOPPING Eufycam (or Nest, or Arlo) taking these steps: -> Eufycam is permanently monitoring the areas you've set up your cameras in [your GPS location, or rough location based on IP, your email, name supplied, etc is stored with Eufycam & shared with the Chinese govt.] -> A person is detected on camera, Eufycam performs facial recognition locally on the home base unit -> Recognized faces are noted in the log (which camera it was at, and when they occur), no alert is sent for known faces you've tagged in the service [these tiny log files of 'who, when, where' are uploaded to Eufycam & shared with Chinese govt.] [these seemingly innocuous pieces of information can be processed] -> Unrecognized faces are sent up to the cloud for the Eufycam notification system to inform you of an unknown face with an alert [all faces are stored online in a database for reference later & of course shared with the govt.] These pieces of information put together allow Eufycam (or Amazon, Chinese govt, etc) to make increasingly accurate algorithmic predictions about: - when you leave for work - when you come home - the days you're at work - even (with other datasets) allows them to quite accurately predict your job - what time you go to sleep & get up - who is your partner, or partners - who are your friends and family members - who are the friends and family that you spend the most time with Now, you're starting to see how incredibly valuable even your information is, as it's value becomes exponentially more valuable the more and more users and locations are monitored, and the surveillance is bound to start picking up higher value targets than you. Perhaps your relative works for an important utility, or a close friend is the daughter of a prominent politician.. every datapoint helps in getting a picture of their lives and patterns, and these cameras that send their data upstream to cloud services are a huge win for surveillance states and corporations willing to monetize the profile information they can amass. All of this costs them very little, as the features and bought and paid for by the individuals buying the cameras. The additional server and engineer expenses are very minimal for a large corporation / govt for the data they get in return. They've spent billions to try to get this data though other means in the past, and now it's all but being handed to them. I'm keeping my eye out for non-cloud connected camera systems, which can provide the awesome features and convenience of security monitoring that these systems provide - however so far my search has turned up nothing that's local-only.. all of them send their data back to the cloud. That's quite telling, isn't it - the companies do not offer local-only, not because they can't but because your data is too valuable to NOT monetize, or on-sell to other corporations or government interests. That's a nope from me dawg.

Please remember you are paying for service with a company like Arlo. Their hubs have superior range (in my and your testing), The Ultra cam is 180 degree vs 140. The Ultra base also has the sdcard capability. The rtsp integration is silly given arlo can send the same to the cloud at a price lower than that stack of hard drives in you local nvr/nas. The arlo integrations are unmatched because (unlike their competitors) they are not tied to a major like google. You get what you pay for - and you should pay to help ensure the next gen of cameras is something you really want.

Hi Matt, That was a very good, concise, and very easy to understand dissertation. I am also picking this video up a year later it seems, and I am guessing that such a discount is no longer available. EufyCAM E does check my boxes too, except for distance from the base station. It may still work with compromise and/or placement. My most important check box is privacy and control of my data, and this system so far is the only one that satisfies this, that I have found. Also since we can be away for sometimes 6 months at a time, camera life is important. I was, and still am considering an Arlo product, but they use cloud, at least 7 days. I have not as yet determined if I have any option to turn that off and if I trust the software to really do that. You mentioned a way of base storage that can be remotely accessed. This is also important. Maybe you can do a video that explains how that works and how to set it up. I would also love to see if you have any new videos on any of this and new competition out there. Another interesting thing about control of data and privacy, is why more company's do not understand there is a big market out there for this. I have rarely commented on youtube. I wish there was a way for you to connect to me directly, and I am not sure if it is allowed for me to leave my email here, nor is it a good idea. Can you contact your subscribers directly? You are very welcome to do that with me. Keep me on your list nonetheless please. Thank-you. That was a huge help for me.

i'm using the Arlo Pro 2's for about an year 4 camera system (garage, living room, Back patio, and the pool) the range and battery life are decent no where near the 6 month recharging time but a solid 3. At the price tag i paid think i will keep that and my 4 Vivint camera (two doorbell and two outdoor)for another year and see what comes to the market then. Worst part of the arlo system is the lag from time attempting to view live video to streaming time while oversea. Thanks for the review will be keeping an eye on the EufyCam E.

Arlo is in general a good system. The only reason I'd recommend switching is if you'd like a system with longer battery life and true local storage. Sounds like you've got a good setup and not worth a switch. I've also noticed the lag on my Arlo Pro system. EufyCam is slightly more responsive from my testing.

Thumbs up for your video and descriptions. But there is a huge lack that all these cameras have. Once they are all connected and active, if an interruption of Wi-Fi or power outage hit them, all these brands don't capture any types of activities that occur in front of them what so ever, and once successfully reconnected to their base( Wi-Fi or power re-connection) they could transfer the recorded events and basically stay simultaneously active and functional . What I mean is, they all lack local memory which these companies need to instantly fix.

I still prefer the Nest cameras simply because they are continuously recording everything all the time. They’re not event based. And the UI is fantastic. You can scroll video and view it as a continuous time lapse. This has helped to an amazing degree. I don’t like these event based cameras bc sometimes they don’t capture enough or fail to capture at all. Yes the subscription based model is expensive, but security is plain expensive. I pay $20/mo for 4 Nest cameras for 5 days of history. Which is plenty. You really don’t need more than that. And to me, that’s not expensive.
@UndecidedMF
@UndecidedMF 5 жыл бұрын
Nest cameras really are top notch for build quality and user experience for sure. For continuous recording you really need a camera that's plugged in though (like you pointed out). Since I needed a battery operated setup, it limited my choices ... and for that Eufy has been good about capturing clips. In fact, it's been better than Arlo for that. I'm planning on testing out Wyze cameras which are a direct competitor to Nest (plugged in - no battery). The cameras are only $25 to start and no subscription fee. Recordings are also stored locally. At that price it's really a "hey, why not" kind of thing. lol.

Biggest weakness IMHO of same is that you cannot set a custom (ie distinctive) iPhone ring tone when camera triggers so you miss any alarms in the general blizzard of stuff that comes to your phone. Serious omission and would stop me buying again (tho I otherwise like it.) IFTTT integration partially redresses the problem but is limited.

My biggest complaint with Arlo is i cannot view the camera feeds live within my network. In other words if my internet is down (which it does from time to time) but my network is working just fine, i cannot see my cameras. Arlo’s feed goes out into the web from the base station, then back to my home network for me to view on my devices. This creates a lag of about 4 to 8 seconds. If someone is in my driveway, by the time i can see on my phone they are either gone or at my door.
