This helped! I went into this thinking I could just wire 3 locations as I’ve always. Make matters worse, didn’t realize the bulbs they had were non dimmable. Took me 3 hours to figure out I needed a companion dimmer and compatible bulbs!

Very helpful. I'm not a fan of working with electricity, so I was hesitant on hooking up the companion switch. I did a single location a couple weeks ago. Knowing what happens if I get the blacks reversed was a big help also. Thank you.

Thanks again@@fixedbyjohn110, but I still got cold feet. The current setup has 2 switches for our family room. The first switch I went to replace has, connected to the actual switch, 2 black wires (1 connected to a black screw [line 1 in] and 1 connected to a brass screw [line 1 out], and 2 red wires one connected to a black screw [line 2 in] and one connected to a brass screw [line 2 out]. And the ground. It looks like a pass through, but I just don't know enough to figure out which wires go to my Lutron black vs. brass, vs. blue.

This helped me get my second companion dimmer working. Working with an existing system so I couldn't see where wires came from or went AND with conduit and the wires were all the same color

I’m trying to install these but the wires they used are all 14-2 and they had dimmers installed with them would I need to run a 14-3 to make it work ?? I’m so confused how they made it work with 14-2

Trying to install one main dimmer and one companion dimmer (Lutron Maestro) for hallway light. Don’t have record of which wire is which so I have red wire on blue terminal in both locations and black wires to black terminal and brass terminal. Primary Maestro functions properly. Companion dimmer is not - when I hold rocker switch down it dims (while I press it) and when I hold it up it brightens (while I press it). Tried swapping the black wires on the companion switch with no change in issue. Any tips?

The key is to follow the wiring diagram. Once you adapt it for a two switch system, incoming power goes to the black wire on one of the dimmers while the black wire on the other dimmer connects to the fixture. Then you wire such that the blue dimmer wire goes to the blue wire on the other dimmer. This leaves two brass terminals on the opposing dimmers which connect to each other. Another possible problem is that you have a third switch in the system you may not be aware of. All switches must be Maestro, one master and the rest companions.

So are all 3 of those switches the same device ? Or is the companions differ from the main dimmer ..

Thanks for your question. Here's what John says "Each lighting circuit has one Lutron Maestro master switch. Only the master switch has LED lights on its face indicating the lighting level. The other switches are called companion switches." If you still need more clarification, just let us know!
