I successfully built this from your video. Wow! Saved a ton of money on buying one and it was a lot of fun to build. I did add a lighted rocker power switch to the side. Thank you very much. Hope to see you back on KZbin again, if even only once in a while. Blessings to you and your family George.

Thanks George for your teaching. I built a dial PWM by following your lead on a previous video. I found another use for it the other day on my crock pot. It really worked great. Much better than low, high and off. LOL

Hello George. I hope you are looking after those ribs of yours. I live in the UK and just wanted to clarify our wiring to some of your folks. Most electronic device inputs will be marked with a “+” and “-” and perhaps an Earth. For us, if these are connected the wrong way round then there is a chance that the electronic device may be permanently damaged. Take care and keep up with your great work George. Best wishes from over the pond.

Truly a great series you're running here. Took me a lot of hours of head scratching and how the ****ing to figure out all you're laying out these past few videos. Wish you were doing this years ago when I was going through this same stuff and there was nobody breaking down and explaining this for our hobby. Well done!

Thank you George. Any downside to the PWM with SCR vs. the Pot with SSR-40VA? Is one clearly better? Put off less heat? Any pros/cons to control heating elements and a pump motor?

Hi George, thank you for the educational video. May I ask a small question: I got a 10000W PWM, and I connected it to a boiler, with a digital volt-amp-meter on the output side to know the current and voltage going to the load. it worked but the meter got broken. could it be that some digital volt-amp meters cannot function with a quadrant wave ? I guess the PWM has a quadrant wave on the output, right ? I was sure of the connection of the meter because I tested it with another circuit and it worked fine... it is just the output of the PWM circuit that smoked it up. Thanks

I built one exactly like this at 240 volts in an old computer power supply case with a fan, I used an Iphone charger to power the fan, works perfectly. The fan runs a little slow at 5 volts but it is enough.

Good evening George. Outstanding videos. I am collecting the parts to build a 240 volt pwm controller to operate a 3500 watt element. 2 questions. 1. What gauge cables should I use, and 2. would the voltmeter/ammeter wire up the same way, just wit two hot wires on input instead of 1 hot and 1 neutral?

@@robertt1782 that’s what I’m observing as I watch more videos. The do the same thing only different. PWM keeps it steady based on the dial(or digital “dial”) without the fluctuations. Again, much simpler and much cheaper lol. I’m trying to get into this while keeping the initial cost low and updating stuff as time goes by.

@@robertt1782 I’ve searched high and low for this PWM. I cannot get the 20A one with a fan. I can only find a 50a one with no fan. Will the 12v power supply and fan he used for the PID build cool this PWM sufficiently when it is mounted in such a way that it blows across the PWM?

@@robertt1782 well I’m at a loss at the moment. Every sort of device is unavailable everywhere. I tried the SSR-40va...no heat sink or potentiometer come with the one I found. The PWM is out everywhere too. I think I may be able to piece it together.

Hi sir iv got the exact motor speed controller you using there with the didigtal key pad,I'm trying to run a treadmill motor with it,I got it wired up with the bridge rectifier, now my problem is when I switch it on and press the arrow for starting it starts up at 30%thats way to fast and with another press of the button it climbs by 5%each time,I'm building a belt grinder, could a person wire in a actual manual pod? The 3 connector points of the pod and the 4 leads of the key pad throws me off a bit,the SCR,grnd, and 5v+ and zero,I don't know witch should go to the potentiometer, any help would be great

PWM tend to be built down to a price. Skip the cheaper 4000W unit and go for 10K watts right away for the few dollars difference. Best to add a fuse in the supply circuit as well as a ground connection to the cage of the PWR. An indicated 50% power will not half the voltage/amperage... these things are not linear and often most sensitive between 40-50%. Much easier to control with the digital version rather than trying to turn a knob a few 100ths of a revolution. Once you have built and used one, you will wonder how you ever did without it.

Goodmorning George, thank you for all that you do. I just got started about a month ago. I have been doing nothing but sugar washes so far. I am only yielding around 110 after all is said and done. We are running a 8 gallon pot still with a worm on top in a pot. No thumper. We use a 48 hour turbo yeast and have been doing 2 and a half pounds of sugar per gallon, and have been doing all the proper steps with temp and sanitization. Any tips to get the proof higher?

Hello Thomas, I hope George doesn't mind me trying to answer your question. I've followed George for many years now so here are my thoughts. Fermentation not completed, or running the still to fast. If the fermentation of your sugar wash was not complete then you will end up with unfermented sugars giving you a lower ABV. What was your start and end gravity reading? Running your still too fast. This will force more water vapour etc into your product, again lowering your ABV. The trick here is to be very patient, get the still upto a temperature where you get a very slow drip from the still and maintain that temperature for a couple of minutes. Increase the temperature really slowly now until you get four or five drips out of your still followed by a short spurt. All stills vary, I make batches of 28 litres of sugar wash and running my still in pot mode takes me around 10 to 12 hours to get 80abv 160 proof. I stop processing at 50abv 100 proof. I hope this helps. George may have more to say, but don't give up Thomas this is a fascinating hobby and George is amazing. Good Luck.

Can this work in a senario 240vac 30 amps, to 240v Recepticle, I assume the Neutral bypasses the Unit to the plug. If a tandem unit is used 240/120. If 1 240v is to used, and 2-120v plugs off each leg (it is a either or senario) will this still do its Job?
