I did 5 of these Smoke/CO2 detectors, only thing, I continued the 14/3 to the panel box. How do I wire in - what happens with red? Or, do I have to use 14/2 to the box? Love the videos! Great to see them and confirm I'm doing it right!! Thanks

I'm replacing and old detector, the box in my ceiling has red, white and black wires just like in your video. Is the "14/2, 14/3 wire" part of these instructions relevant if I'm not adding an entirely new detector to the house?
@DaruDhillon5 ай бұрын
14/3 wire is used if the smoke detectors are connected to each other. Otherwise 14/2 can be used to wire one detector on its own.

Thanks for the video. I live in a mobile home and the wired detectors are defective. They are wired in with a two wire connector that is white and black wires. If when I buy replacements if the new ones come with the red wire for connecting the two together I presume I just not connect the red wire to anything. Is that correct? Thanks for any info.

Hi Franko, I would wire the whites and blacks and leave the interconnected wire as is since you don’t have it. It will be good to have those up and running. Thanks for the question!

do i have to have 14-3 wire to connect 4 of these detectors or is it possible to use 14-2?
@DaruDhillon3 жыл бұрын
Hi Calvin, 14-3 wire allows the smoke detectors to be interconnected (so they communicate with each other). So, if one goes off they all will. They will need the 14-3 wire going from each detector to do that. 14-2 wire can be used from the panel to the first detector only. Hope that helps.

Hi Emilio, I’m from Canada, and this is what is required for local residential work where I live in BC and Toronto. Always follow your local electrical code to do what’s best for your region. Thanks for the question!

@@DaruDhillon Thanks for the reply! I was reading cec 2018 and i was confused about 32-102 because it says it has to be armoured cables but i never seen ot done that way anywhere so i just needed some clarification on that.

@DaruDhillon Жыл бұрын
You can try pressing the test button to reset it. If it doesn’t work I’d call your electrician to fix it. It’s important that your electrician is licensed to avoid potential problems with your wiring and safety. I hope you’re able to solve your issue.

@@DaruDhillon we have about 8 in a small house, major overkill. i decided i'll bypass the orange wire on all but the basement and one upstairs alarm, so a triggered alarm in the basement can wake people upstairs. you can hear or be woken by one alarm from anywhere. i.e. not all need to be interconnected. the ridiculously high pitched tone can and will damage hearing (cause tinnitus) if exposed from close up. this is something makers and the regulators who require these don't think of. tinnitus is devastating. they need to lower the frequency of the tone. i first get my ear muffs and ear plugs in before i try to deal with them, and i recommend that to everyone as well. do not work with these things without ear protection. i've had a few false alarms now. trying to shut them off when they are all blaring is difficult. you have to find the initiating alarm, and you have no idea which one it is, and even if you find it in the chaos, you don't know how to silence it. do you press and release, do you press and hold? i can't read the microscopic print without a magnifying glass! to bypass a given alarm, i just have to remove the orange pig tail wire that connects the alarm out of the connector cap. i realize you do not need to hear all this, but maybe someone else browsing comments might be interested.

why do you need 3 wires? this video is very confusing , you did not explain anything
@DaruDhillon2 жыл бұрын
For a smoke detector to be interconnected they need to have three wires. The third wire allows all smoke detectors in your home to communicate with each other. When one unit goes off they all do. Without that third wire your smoke detectors won’t all go off if one in the basement does. For safety reasons all smoke detectors in your home need to be interconnected. They all require that third wire. Hope that helps.

@@DaruDhillon If you don't have any other smoke detectors you can leave the cap on the red wire? Also, no need to have a ground?
@DaruDhillon2 жыл бұрын
@@eddiebustermuck if you only have one smoke detector you can leave the red wire alone. Lots of old houses don’t have ground wire. Hope that helps Eddie 👋🏽
