I broke my jaw 40 years ago and my jaw was wired, similar to this. The pain when they pushed my jaw together was excruciating! Doctor had his knee on my chest with two nurses grabbing my arms. Then wired together so I couldn't open my mouth! Liquid foods only for 8 weeks

Yo I had that shit done with local anesthesia. Shots are the worse. Then the tightening at the end to bring your broken mandibular up clenched to your upper mandibular... because the shots don’t numb your bone, you feel every bit of that fracture close. Just informing others to go with the general anesthesia so you don’t have to feel that. Unless you’re a tough guy I was in and out in 20 minutes.

I had this done to me. Worst pain I have ever been through.. After surgery I went bat shit crazy and cut the wires out myself and just wore the bottom piece where my jaw was broken. Omg. This brings back memories.. O.O

On liquid diet now for the past 11days since getting my mouth wired shut....waiting for the day when I can start eating soft foods ... some say they can eat soft foods after 2 weeks some say after 4-6wks 🤦🏻‍♂️

Make sure when you do finally eat. Small portions.. the stomach shrinks. I was wired up 2.5 months then another 2 weeks with bands. The day my wires came out I went all out on food it did hurt but the worse part was throwing it all back up like I said my stomach did shrink so be careful. Best of luck to you bud.

Thks for heads up...it has been 2.5wks since my surgery.. Doc say I need to be wired shut for at least 4wks.. for now it’s just delicious velvety eggs, extra creamy mash potatoes, silky tofu & anything else that I can suck through between the small gaps of my teeth 😞

Yeah I have it right now, the arch bar is smashing then and the wire is underneath them, hurts like a bitch man, my gums are swollen and cut all over. I would highly recommend not breaking your jaw

This technique does not require pins? My bars are secured by pins so they do not move at all. I had my wires replaced this week (3 weeks out from first surgery) and I swear I am wired much tighter now than I was before and it's even more uncomfortable. I have 3 more weeks left of wires because my surgeon does not like bands and I am miserable. It doesn't help that I am claustrophobic and have anxiety constantly. Being wired shut is the worst thing imaginable and I cannot understand why anyone would have ever voluntarily had their mouth wired shut. It's torture!

I’m just starting to feel fullness and and pain in my ears most worse when I wake up. I don’t know what any ENT or MF surgeon can do, as it seems to be put in the too hard to deal with basket.

Maxillofacial surgeons, they are normally DDS or dentists that specialize in surgery of the face & teeth. Im going on 3 wks due to a condyle fracture, and I have 3 more to go before they put me on elastics for 2 more weeks

Well shit. I think the dentist fractured my jaw two days ago extracting a lower molar. He yanked for 45mins straight and since I've been in worse pain than I started with.
