I’m operating a 04 w2000 tomorrow for the first time. I’ve never operated any milling machine. My boss is aware I never have, and he’s going to be up there with me, but I wanted to spend the night watching some videos to get familiar with the controls so I’m not completely lost up there. Like I said it’s an 04 also, just bigger? Do you know if the controls are the same? Or is it like a vehicle in which you can buy one with different packages with different options? I have plenty of experience operating everything in the world on excavation and I can run small pavers like leeboys, just never something like this. Thanks in advance.

Since you already have operating experience with some of those more complicated machines, a mill isn’t really that big of a deal to operate. One of the biggest problems I have had with these different milling machines is that when zeroing out the digital readout’s they are not very accurate, and I have to use the manual gauges off of the Hydraulic raising cylinders, the older ones have a lot of slop in them and at times you have to really focus on the road and where there are dips and large bumps and when milling in supers it will show you on your gauges or a readouts that your machine is milling 3 inches deep but in reality, you are doing 3 inches on one side and maybe four or 5 inches on the other, some milling machines will have a switch that lets you select when you are milling in a super, and it will correct that for you automatically. a lot of this stuff comes with practice. I have found that bigger companies that do lots of milling Generally have a guy or two that are willing to share information similar to what I’m sharing with you. So peeking at some of the controls this afternoon, I know it doesn’t have a steering wheel, it has sticks for the front and rear tracks. I’m sure it has those boxes for setting your grind depth but I did not see them. Hopefully it has a lot of the same features. I cannot express how EXCITED I am to get on one and mill away!
